Just thought I would show some pictures since I have not seen any with this location before. Install was very easy.

 

I don't get the point of the catch can if the other hose is not reconnected to the air inlet. The whole purpose is to "catch" the oil and seperate the gases from it to be drawn back into the intake. The advantage of still having the hose on the intake is to help scavenge the crankcase when the PCV is close due to pressure in the intake manifold. This eliminates an scavenging that is available and that is bad. An absence of pressure in the crankcase is not only good for all the seals it helps the rings and reduces backpressure on the pistons. Vacuum pumps are put on engines for a reason.

Obviously if you have an aftermarket inlet without the breather provision then this arguement is null since you no longer have that advantage.

 

timzcat I have been told not to connect the other hose to the intake. So your saying I should connect the other hose back into the intake to help pressure in the crankcase? What do others say about this? Thanks for your reply.

 

Yes, if you have the port on the inley pipe, connect it. That is the purpose of the catch can. When you are at 0 or on positive pressure there is enough air flow through the inlet pipe to draw the gases out of the catch can/ crankcase.
I honest don't know where the theory of connecting it to just the cam cover came from. If that were the case then an $8 breather filter is all you need, not a $75 catch can.

No, because any pictures I have are not going to help. I had the entire PCV system redisgned to go through the can when I had it. Only reason it is off now is because I am changing the MAF pipe and don't have the provision for the breather hose anymore. Since I don't I took the can off and just put a breather on the cam cover.

After finding oil in my MAF pipe, I've been looking into trying to make a catch can or just buy one and I'm still undecided.

Are any/all of the aftermarket catch cans baffled to make them more efficient at separating the oil? I'm happy with my Helix DP, so it would be nice to get a coordinated part, lol.

Also, per other threads the Helix will fit under strut brace in a car with stock airbox (like me), but I haven't seen any pics. Can anyone confirm that it will fit?

Bump for the weekday folks.

I'm leaning towards getting the Helix and adding baffling, but could still use input on a good material. I've seen people use steel wool and cut chicken wire. Any other recommendations?

I'm also considering setting up two catch cans for the breather side and PCV side, or trying to duplicate Timzcat's setup.

The only baffled catch can I've seen is the AVO, but it's pretty spendy (~$200). Any other baffled catch cans that I'm missing?

couldnt you just put one of those crankcase filters in place of the tube that would connect to the intake tube?

the reason why I ask is because i bought an intake tube from dejon and i forgot to the buy the one with the nipple for the VCV. Can I just put one of those little kn air filters on the crank case??

You really do need a vac on the crank case...

 

I thought you did too, but so many people do without it...Maybe this can be a cause for my crappy idle??? I have the buschur MAF pipe, wouldnt you think a company that has been building car parts and what not would have put a nipple on their maf so that you can have vacum if it really needed it?

 

i have a pro-1 catch can on that spot since march

as others said.. your catch can is doing $hit... u need to pipe it back to ur intake piping...
