trans/transfer case oil

I just changed the tranny and transfer case oil. I thought I would let you know what I used since so many post about the wrong fluids being used.

Transmission- Chevron DELO Gear Lubricant ESI 80W-90 GL-4/GL-5/MT-1
does not harm yellow metals.

Transfer case- Castrol Hyploy C Gear oil 80w-90 GL-5 meets Limited slip requirements.

Let my know if this sounds fine. Car is RS version and only has 1965 miles

Thank you.

I did call the dealer first to verify.

The manual calls for:

Manual Transaxle Gear oil API GL-4 SAE 75W-85W or 75W-90.
(My Rs has a front limited slip trans but the Gear oil called out says nothing about any limited slip requirements)

Transfer oil- Hyploid gear oil API classification GL-5 SAE 90.

Strange and a little confusing.

Dealer told me. GL-4 in tranny/ GL-5 in transfer case and rear Diff.

I just had the dealer swap all my fluids. All 3 gearboxes received Mobil 1 synthetic 75W90, with a $5 bottle of friction modifier in the rear diff. The reason your front diff doesn't have any special requirements is because it is a helical type and does not rely on friction from clutch packs, but simple gears. The mechanic punched up alternative fluids on his computer, and there are a ton.

EDIT: The Mobil1 synthetic is GL-4 and GL-5 compatible. (THIS IS ONLY TRUE FOR AXLES, NOT THE TRANNY!!!)

Yep I was just going to say, I keep getting locked out of 2nd now, so I went back & re-read the Mobil1 information again. I thought it said it was approved for GL-4 and GL-5 applications, but here is exactly what it says:
Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-140 can also be used in rear axles where API Service GL-4 lubricant is recommended
I didn't notice the REAR AXLE part. I guess that's because there is no brass in the rear axle. I can't believe I listened to the mechanic. He recommended specifically Mobil1 75W90 instead of the stuff he had, which he said was just GL-5 non-synthetic gear oil they use in everything anyway, and that GL-5 was just fine for my transmission. I know I know, there I go again, thinking people can actually do their ****ING JOB once in a while and are not just BULL****ING me either to pretend they know what they are talking about, or don't really care one way or the other...

This was faxed to me from Mitsubishi.
GROUP 22 MANUAL TRANSMISSION

GL-5 and GL-4 Oil Requirements- 2003
Lancer Evolution. Be sure to use the correct fluid when changing the oil on the
Lancer Evolution Transmission, Transfer Case, and Rear Differential. 75-90W or
SAE 90 oil with GL-5 specification is used in the transfer case and rear diferential.
Mitsibishi Diamond Gear Lube 75-85W 0r 75-90W oil with GL-4 specification is used
in the transmission.
CAUTION: Using GL-5 specification oil in the transmission will damage the brass material in the synchronizers. Damage of this nature will not be covered under warranty.

Requirements:
Transmission:
75-85W/75-90W Mitsubishi Diamond Gear Lube, API class GL-4
Capacity: 2.9qt.
Transfer Case & Rear Differential
75-90W or SAE 90LSD or Hypoid Gear Oil, API class GL-5
Capacity .58 qt. for each.

I would go back to dealer and tell them that you lost your receipt and get them to put in writing that they installed the Mobil 1 oil. (before you tell them they made the mistake)

Any tranny issues beyond this point should be blamed on Mitsubishi.
I can fax you a copy if needed.

Thanks but I don't think much damage could have been done in 2 days. I just had them put the normal diamond care 75W85 in there, although the mechanic swears that the Mobil1 has no sulfer and would have been fine if it stayed in there. I forgot to ask the Mobil1 support line whether it really has sulfer in it. He said he also called the service tech line, and they told him as long as the GL5 fluid doesn't have sulpher in it, it should work out dandy. The Mobil1 definitely works in the transfer case and rear diff (along w/ the Mitsubishi friction modifiers) so I left them be.

Can someone with really high knowledge on this stuff let me know whether or not the stuff I have will or will not work in my car... Also anyone with prior knowledge about these products in ours cars could respond....
I have for the transmission:

BG Syncro Shift For Front Wheel Drive Manual Transmissions Part # 790
Says on the back that it is recommended for vehicles requiring motor oil, ATF or GL-4 gear oil is specified as service fill

For the Transfercase and rear Diff I have:

Red Line Synthetic Oil Heavy Shock Proof Gear Oil
High performance gear lubricant
SAE 75w90

Should I use these products for their respective purposes or should I dump them both?

If I should get rid of them please specify exactly what to buy....

THANK YOU!
