What's the best short-throw shifter?
thanks for the feedback! I really don't like the stock shifter at all... I will try some bushings and some bg syncroshift from Lancershop... anybody try any of this?
I've got a Kartboy SS and brass bushings from Lancershop. When I first installed them it just felt different, and I couldent tell if I liked it better or not. While it is a shorter throw, it takes a bit more muscle to shift. Now that i've gotten used to it and gone back and driven on stock I would say that I definately like it better. Havent dared try any other fluid but stock.

I agree, that's what I was saying above. Our shifter is long and way down on the floor. I know our car wasn;t originally designed for sport cars use, but it is still lacking IMO

the stock shifter is pretty sticky, that's what i didn't like. i got the speed source brassh shift cable bushings and it was kind of a ***** to install. had to sand down one of the bushings because of poor fitment. they include the sandpaper tho, but i think they try to cya by saying the sand paper is there to "take off anything on the pin that might inhibit the bushing from installing" it's actually to sand down the bushing so it will fit in the ring.
it improved feel a lot, but there is a bit of additional effort shifting into 5th.
that outta the way, you failed to includ ethe b&m precision kit, which comes with aluminum shifter base bushings. anything that shortens stock throw is gonna create more effort, but if you insist on the shortness, i like this kit a lot, have it installed in my car also, as long as you follow the how to that is posted up here and you're careful with your dremel cuts ect (measure twice cut once), everything should be fine.

I think the ideal solid shifter bushings should use spherical bearings. Now if only a vendor will make one for us! The cable ends that meet the shifter use spherical bearings. The tranny end should use them too!
after putting in the shift kit today and driving a lot more 5th is still a bit gluey but the shift is so "straight" it's great, i don't have to worry about missing and all shifts are much more precise. reverse is another story, kinda gotta get it in this certain spot for it to get in there, which is actually bad since the evo's radius sucks and i can't use ebrake to turn ALL the time :].
the last thing you want to do is buy a cheap short shifter.... by doing this you'll miss gears alot more and it'll feel like your never in gear... worthless mod if you ask me... just do bushings and fluid

Wow, sorry yours didn't fit... I'd bet it was the ring vs. the bushing though. Mine went in without any effort... made the action like I'd hoped it would have been from the factory. I also used anti-seize to prevent future problems with dissimilar metals.
yeah it was bushing vs ring, only the small one, the large one was coaxed in semi nicely, i used wd40 up the until my whole engine bay smelled like it (or maybe i just got it up my nose) but after the sanding everything was kosher, so no complaints, at least none that are worth noting.
yeah they make those for hondas but none for evo... it's really not that hard and it's a clean install if you make it one. just look at the how to in the how to section, the guy does a really clean install.
