Hmmmmmmmmmm

Before anyone jumps on your case, I'll put out something kinda simple.

The ECU is the computer that controls the car.

The AEM EMS is an aftermarket computer that you can buy. It controls your car instead of your stock ECU. And it lets you tune your car.

I guess thats a quick definition.

why all the hostility. it's just a freakin question!!

ecu = preprogrammed settings from the factory for a/f ratios, timing, boost (if applicable), safety measures (ie. knock control, detonation, timing retard, etc) and adjustmeants for temperature, humidity and other conditions.

ems = continuously programmable engine management system where all settings are programmed by the user and are not adjusted except by the user. this enables whoever is using the system to alter settings for a particular driving style, condition or desired power output. It also includes extra features which are not necessary but are convenient such as automatic IC sprayer, 2step launch control, nitrous control, etc. it is a very versatile unit which you will never outgrow

Calm down there tiger. I meant no insult to the thread starter at all. I learned all i needed to learn about cars on a couple of beaters before jumping into an evo. Kinda strange that you own a high performance vehiecle such as an evo and not even know what an ECU is. So take your gaurentee, and keep it, i wont want to get my money back any time soon

you're right but you meant Engine Control "unit"

BTW, I'm just giving the guy a hard time. No need to simmer.
