The dead horse, but I am ready to spend money: Cams
OK, here are my plans, and I am looking into all of my cam options at this point:
Stock turbo
Dynoflash
Upgraded IC and piping
Upgraded intake
8000 RPM redline
fuel pump
full 3" TB including O2 housing
Works springs and retainers
The power I desire is mid-top. Bottom end grunt is not a big concern, it is a turbo car for Christ's sake!
WIth the springs and retainers, which cams should I pick? What lift should I go with, and what duration?
FOr the stock turbo, do I really need 272's? But then the Tomei's are only 260?
Please help me Evo Gods. Show me the light. JUN 264's look nice, but what are your thoughts?
Thanks all for your assistance.
Andy

If you don't mind the slightly rough idle, then 264/272 okay. But I prefer the 264/264. Stock idle quality. There was a test done somewhere on these boards testing different cam combos. Between the 264/264 and 264/272, there really wasn't a big horsepower difference between the two.

The piper 265's will give you more mid and high's than hks 264's and with the extra lift (11.5 vrs. hks 10.5) ,it is in turn going to help on the upper rpm's. Also with a port and polish job all you are doing is increasing airflow in and out of the head which is going to help the rpm's in the higher range alot. But pipers cost some cash. If you want mid to high power for a reasonable price 272's are what you are going to want.

just get hks 272/272 and stop wasting time. or if you're worried about the idle bs (which is it, not like sound kills), get 272/264 (yes i got the order right), makes way more power than 264/272.

264/272 (so as not to compromise idle quality) would be best overall for the money.
The Piper and JUN's are great as well - Piper is some cash, JUN has to be ordered usually (so not as easy to come by in the US).
The Tomei's are also a great way to go too, especially if you have upgraded springs already - tremendous mid and top end punch

Some folks are very casual when they talk about idle quality, but for alot of daily driven Evos, it is a major concern.
Some of the 272/272s that I've heard sound like they're gonna shut off any second. IMO, it makes the motor sound like a POS in need of a tune-up.
