Need expert advice from current Evo owners!!

I'm currently on the waiting list for the Evo 8, coming this Spring in America and i hear that with a simple intake and exhaust i can easily get around 300 hp. I don't want to do anything that might void my warranty so my plan is to get an intake, full catback exhaust, downpipe, bov and a boost controller. Would that be enough to get the job done? Just want to bring my car down to about 4.5 sec/0-60, maybe high 12's in the 1/4 mile.
Any advice will help.
Much thanks, a Newbie.

If the us evo is the same spec of the evo vii, you will need a complete exhaust and induction kit to get 300bhp.
It's better to change the downpipe and turbo elbow for better high rpm power. You can keep the cat if you want, but the evo is a rally car and if you keep everything standard just because of the warranty you will keep the car standard!
Why don't you just put back a standard exhaust if you have an engine problem, before going to the dealer?

You can also change the fuel pump and get a boost controller.

Have a look at www.powerengineering.co.uk

Dang!! i didn't know that a simple clutch change can make that much of a difference. I do hear that Evo factory tends to slip alot and eventually go out before 20,000 miles of driving. I guess i'll invest in a racing clutch. In terms of a full exhaust systems and boost controller what are the best ones for the price and performance??

Exhaust the lightest possible (weight is the biggest performance enemy). I think (but am not sure) that that would be the APEX'i N1 titanium.

APEX'i stuff is relatively expensive, but very good.

Thanks man...i've heard lot of great things about apexi products. i'll be sure to check them out.

OK, I'm an HKS fan, so the Hiper exhaust system also comes in titanium. I have the HKS EVC on my car, and very pleased. HKS racing suction kit also an option concerning induction, and a hell of a good one too.

Apexi makes some great products, but their boost controller isn't one of them. The Blitz SBCID & Greddy ProfecB use very similar duel selanoid designs that have been proven time and time again to boost the quickest, level off the most accurate, and prevent boost spikes. That, and neither unit isthe massive size of the Apexi, making them easier to mount.

look through Sport Compact Car for a great test done a few months ago on a 2nd gen dsm with these 3 boost controllers and a couple more.

The reason I got the APEXI is because I was planning on the getting the FC POWER computer anyways (which I have now) ....I don't like getting a module for this and module for that (HKS)....Now I can control and map my boost from the commander...plus there's less clutter on dash area. All the products before mentioned are very good at what they do(including the APEXI)I don't know if you guys got the NEW EVC4(HKS) yet...very easy to use but unfortunately the unit take the human input factor out of play...everything is done on it's own. Just install and do few runs....then wham the unit sets your LOW and HIGH boosts for you....where's the fun in that? To be totally honest..if I were to do it again...I would seriously consider the GREDDY E-manage w/ boost controller....
because I'm very interested in mapping and GREDDY does it thru a Window's base program.....very interesting

I think you can with the Blitz - but I am not sure... I will ask my roommate, he has one in his WRX. But even if you can't I still wounldn't go with the Apexi. I will always choose reliability over features & performance, but that is my opinion....
