lifter bleeding when installing cams??
Just saw this thread that Superz posted in about getting good idle with 272's after bleeding lifters before install.

what are your thoughts on this?

You should bleed the lifters whenever you are swapping cams. When you remove the cams, the lifters will fully extend. All you need to do is stick a small allen wrench down the lifter bore and push. The oil inside the lifter should squirt out. This will ensure that your valves won't smack into your piston when you first turn the engine over after the cam install.
Paraphrased from the manual, the proceedure is:
1) Check your engine oil - full is good
2) Let the car warm up at idle for 1 to 3 minutes
3) Gradually and evenly raise the rpms from idle to 3K. You should hit 3k right at 15 seconds
4) Take your foot off the gas and let the car idle for 15 seconds
5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the lifters stop making noise (usually between 10 and 30 cycles). Once that happens repeat the process 5 more times.
6) Let the car run at idle for 1 to 3 minutes to make sure the noise is really gone.
If performing steps 3 and 4 up to 30 times doesn't get rid of the ticking, you have another problem. Likey candidates are a dirty valve train and lifters, a collapsed lifter, etc.
Parking the car on an incline or leaving the car parked for extended periods of time are common causes of lifter noise. For all the details look under "lash adjuster" in the service manual.
