Output Shaft stuck in the Transfer Case - can't get out!

Hey guys,

So, I am in the midst of changing my clutch. However, I can't get the output (half shafts) out of the car.

A) Tried the slide hammer - did not even budge.

B) Tried other various methods.

C) Tried bolting a chain / sledge hammer.

They won't come out. Just can't get them out - I believe there is a possibilit of them being damaged and somehow bonded together on the inside? Not sure.

Any help, pointers, insults or tips?

Thanks again.

weird..when i did my clutch it came out to easy...almost hit me in the groin..

all i had to do was put a threaded bolt in plus the right wrench and it came out like butter...

try to wiggle it...i mean turn it clock wise and couter clockwise..then try and use the slide hammer...or turn it at the same time u use the hammer...but it should come out very easily...gl man

I had a car that the driver side shaft that goes thru the tranny into the tcase didnt want to come out easily. After getting it out, the end of the splines were chewed up. We then took the diff out of the tcase and found it to be totally destroyed inside.

The owner had done so many dry donuts that he kept the front tires spinning at such a great difference of speed from each other, causing the spyder gears in the diff to spin at a high rate of speed. Enough to sling all the fluid off the side gears making them braze themselves to the cross shaft. It made the crossshaft turn, shearing off its locating pin holding it in the diff, it then started to walk its way out of the diff, digging into the inside of the enclosure that encases the front diff. Luckily most of the metal shavings stayed inside the mostly enclosed front diff and saved everything else.

Try em for a bit. Put em down, go inside and make a sandwhich. Try again. Go inside and eat aforementioned sandwhich. Go outside and replace.
Never works the first time :(
It helps to have someone holding the CV joints together so they don't absorb the shock when you whack at it w/ a hammer and wood.

your clip is damaged try all you want you'll most likely end up buying new shafts I had one where the shafts wouldn't come out I used a long punch and a air hammer found the clip was twisted. you can order the clip but its hard a heck to replace with out bending it or damage.
