Knife's new prototype manifold..

Just got finished putting this setup all together over this weekend and were hoping to get to take it to NOPI in dallas, but ended up being a bit too tired after all the work to make the trip. This is a full stainless tubular setup with a gt30r turbo and 44mm Tial vband wastegate. We will be hitting the dyno this week to get some real numberson it but for now, thoughts? Like it? don't like it?

looks like a couple fins on the radiator got bent.

LancerOZ Oct 18, 2004 04:05 PM

I like it. Looks very good with those angled bends.

The only concern I'd have is getting to all those nuts/bolts. It seems like some of those tubes get really close to those nuts.... might be hard to get a torque wrench in between. It looks really really good though.

Are you going to move the radiator? The turbo looks like it's right up against it. And it's only going to get worse when the engine rocks back and forth.

Want to Evo Oct 18, 2004 04:09 PM

yeah that turbo looks like its getting a little close. I wonder what kind of heat transfer would happen from the turbo hotside to the radiator.

evodave Oct 18, 2004 04:09 PM

how big is the piping? How think? Where did you get the flange for the head?

MayhemSi Oct 18, 2004 04:17 PM

its 8 guage tubing.. external diameter is 1 5/8" I believe. The turbo is actually alot further from the radiator than the pics show it to be. The fins were mushed mainly in the repeated moving things on and off the car. All the bolts are easily accessible for tightening.

what turbo is that?

ROFL! I was just about to say "Next time you do a turbo swap go ahead and remove the radiator to prevent bending over a bunch of radiator fins" :)

Back on topic, it looks good! Love the Tial wastegate, and I can't wait to see what kind of power you make on the dyno {thumbup}

Very nice work. Nice welds, I wish I could weld that nice. Are the runners equal length? Reminds me of the stuff they put together at RevHard.

MayhemSi Oct 18, 2004 05:15 PM

Its about as close to equal length as we can get without alot of computer design involved. I will try to get a good picture of the collector, too as it is beautiful.

Really?

its an optical illusion :dunno:

Lol.. yes... in those pictures, the manifold is not tightened up to the head (flanges needed to be resurfaced first). We did have a nasty fight with the radiator during the prototype process, though. I think we won, but I'm not quite sure...

bolsen Oct 21, 2004 07:34 AM

Yea I was going to say, that's oftly close.

Make sure if it makes it into production to put this in the manifold thread :)

Also, if it's 8 gauge, sell it less than rnr and with a coating and you'll have a winner.
