Getting into the 12's

First off I don't want this to be preceived as a n00b thread- because I'm not a n00b who's daddy bought him an evo for doing good in school. :) I know most threads like this are started by kids who know nothing about cars and just want to drive fast and act irresponsible on the road. They are the ones responsible for the sky high insurance premiums lol... I just recently bought this car and it's a much different monster than my last car.

I'm just wondering what mods most of you are doing to acheive mid-high 12 second passes. I know much of it depends on the launch and the driver, but let's take that out of the equation.

You should consider getting engine management like AEM or Xede from Vishnu and a set of cams.

smp3000 Nov 23, 2004 08:25 AM

Well engine management is a ways downt he road for me. Some people have dipped into the mid-high 12's with intake, mbc, turboback, fuel pump, and a flash.

WTI dude . Your just asking to get flamed =P

Anyhow - its not just the mods that determines your 12 second pass ...

Besides your bolt ons - Turboback, cams, fuel pump - Engine Management and tuning is the most important .... All depends how much your willing to spend and how you wanna get there (Piggyback/standalone) ...

smp3000 Nov 23, 2004 08:39 AM

I understand all of that. I used to have a Mazda MP3 which I turbo'd- I did all the installs myself including the hard wired piggyback system.

I was jut wondering what most of you who are running 12's in this car have done.

Any flash with a TBE should get you close. Add some cams and you're there.

rebelzx Nov 23, 2004 08:46 AM

It took me a turboback, mbc, and flash to get into the high 12's. For consistent mid 12's, you need cams. With cams and race gas, I'm hitting 12.2, 12.3 consistently if I can keep the wheels from spinning too much. These motors really open up with the addition of cams, and go nowhere unless the ecu is tuned for your mods.

smp3000 Nov 23, 2004 08:46 AM

That's the plan. 20 psi- with a TT flash and HKS cams. Other bolt ons include perrin SR intake, and AP crank Pulley.

Thanks for the info! :)

turbo back and xede and you will be around 12.7.

smp3000 Nov 23, 2004 09:31 AM

xede vs utec? Any thoughts?

matt55 Nov 23, 2004 09:35 AM

afc , mbc , air fliter and 100 octane = 12.5@109

EvoSam Nov 23, 2004 11:59 AM

I have an XEDE in my car, and had a Utec in my old WRX. I hated the Utec, I love the XEDE. Mind you, we're not comparing apples to apples here but it's at least some sort of an answer.

I'd advise a little against the Utec for the Evo. (If you're in a Subie; it's the only way to go.) If you want hardcore results - invest in the AMS EMS; there's no substitute. If wanting to stay lighter on mods/prices - go with the xede or a flash.

A flash and full exhaust will put you into the 12's. That's about $1000-$1500 depending what brands. If you want mid 12's; just add in the cams like others mentioned.

Well so far it looks like I'm on the right track :) Thanks guys.
