Can't get boost under 30psi after turbo kit..

Got my gt30r in today and when we took it on the road i hit 30psi in first with my boost controller off. No matter what i did, the car would not go under that.. I am running tial 38mm wastegate and Blitz sbc-id.. I have one boost line running to the side of the tial and the otehr t'd off the Bov pressure line.. Also the westgate is atmospheric dump and it isnt opening.

Any clues? I am thinking it either has a spring higher than 30psi or the gate itself is broke.. I guess i can run a vac line right from the bov line to the gate and that should run it at spring pressure, but i really dont want to hit 30psi again

Sounds like the waste gate spring is too stiff.

I'm not sure if I understand your hose setup to the wastegate, but the hose to the side is what open the wastegate. Their should only be a hose attached to the top if it is coming from a boost controller. Pressure to the side port opens the wastegate and pressure to the top port keeps it closed.

It sounds like you have pressure going to both the side and top. The wastegate won't open then, or if it does, it will open at a very high pressure.

To test the wastegate and how you have the lines setup, just attach a pressure hose to the side port and see if it opens at spring pressure.

I didnt have anything on the top port.. I disconected the set-up i had and bypassed the boost controller, i put the pressure hose t'd off the bov to the side port and still hit 27psi, but this time the wastegate actually opened at what was 20psi on my gauge..

Do you think the pressure line off the BOV is not enough volume to open the gate? There is a big pressure hose on the right side of the intake manifold i am going to try to run it off of that.. Also my gauge is tapped on the passanger side of theintake manifold..

Is the Tial brand new? And do you know what spring you have in it?

I remember when I put in my new tubo and Tial 40mm, I had similar problems where I would boost past 30 psi. I checked all of my lines a million times and everything was fine.

The Tial was just sticking. After a few times of the wastegate opening, everything started working normally. Maybe yours is doing the same thing if all of your lines are hooked up correctly.

Yup brand new tial.. I believe it has the .8 spring.. I am thinking the Bov line may not be enough to open it.. I am going to route it from a differrent pressure source and if it still hits that, i will take the top off and make sure i have the correct spring, if not i will get a new one to replace it..

ifyou have a manifold pressure line going right to the side port of the wastegate and the top port is open to atmosphere, your boost level should be right at the spring pressure.

(tial does not make a 30psi spring combination either..only up to 23.20psi with the biggest double springs)

it sounds to me that the tial external is failing to open. internally sticking, jammed shut. try removing it and taking the top of the WG (watch out, the spring will shoot the top off) you should be able to easily move the valve in and out once the spring is removed.

I am going to take off the top of the gate tomorrow and make sure it moves freely.. Taking off the whole gate is going to be a major pain in my ass so i will save that for my last resort..

Is it common for them to stick like this?

Try running a vac hose off turbo to side of wastegate and measure boost. Then work from there.

There is no nipple on my compressor, so i have to use another vacume source.. I tried running the bov pressure line to the gate and still hit 27psi but the gate actually opened this time.. The gate has to be sticking, or the bov line isnt enough to open the gate at 14psi..

i duno

Well, I know my gate stuck when it was brand new and a buddy of mine had the same thing happen.

If you have some sort of hand pump like a Mityvac, just hook that up to the side port and cylce the wastegate a few times to open and close the valve to make sure that it gets out of it's sticking habit.

And you're line from the BOV should be enough, but to be safe, if you have hard IC pipes, I would tap the lower pipe and go straight to the side port, without teeing anything off of that line. That is how mine is setup, but like I said, I even had the sticking problem for the first day or so when I installed my new setup.

I am not sure the IC pipe is thick enough to tap, probally would need a bung welded on..

I am going to run the lbov to the In port on my boost controller, and the manifold pressure to the gate and then the out port to the top nipple, that should work.. I am going to blow through the side port a few times with my air hose, mabey i will rig up something with a valvestem and see how much it holds before it blows open..

Do the lower inc pipe or drill and tap the turbo.

Ya really think the Ic pipe is thick enough to tap? i am definetly not drilling my turbo, i have drilled and tapped plenty of times, but i am not comfortable enough to do the turbo..
