why doesn't my car start??!!
Here's the 411:
my car sits all week, but it always starts every weekend. 2-3 weeks ago my car was broken into. they smashed my window and they cut and crossed the cables to my under-hood sirens, and that's all i know that they did. a week later, i was vaccuming glass out of my car when the inside sirens (which they never touched) went crazy for no reason (the alarm wasn't activated, so i don't know why they randomly decided to go off). i decided this week to take out my intercooler sprayer reservoir/pump (i NEVER use it or even turn it on) - so today i did. i did not try to start the car before i did this, only after. here's the problem: today, after i removed my sprayer reservoir/pump, i let the wire harness for the pump hang loose and left my bumper off, and tried to start the car (to see if anything odd would happen, since the wires for the pump were no longer connected to anything - like a CEL or something). the starter turns over, but the car doesn't start. the lights on the dash come on and i can turn the radio on, so i dont' think the battery died during the week. here's the odd thing - after i try to start the car, the alarm's remote start tries 3 more times all on it's own to start the car. i didn't push the remote start button on the keychain or anything...it just activated itself! i doubt that disconnecting the sprayer pump caused this (unfortunatly i tossed it away already, so i can't hook it back up to test it). but i really think it's the alarm - i think that either they did something else to it that i don't know about, or perhaps them messing with the wires to the sirens did something. if anyone has a guess, please reply - i really don't want to have my car towed somewhere if it's something i can fix by removing the alarm's 'brain' or something. thanks! |
maybe the theives or you might have accidentaly triggered the immobilizer?
|
i thought about that...
any way of getting around that? i've already decided to dig out my stock keychain remote to see if unlocking the doors with that turns the immobilizer off. i really hope it's that easy, though i'm sure it won't be  |
is there a little green key lit on the dash when you try to start it? if so, it is the immobilizer. dealership will have to reprogram the key.
|
i'll look for that next time i try to start it - thanks!

well, i tried starting my car again this morning and the starter doesn't turn over anymore and my remote start no longer automatically tries to start it 3 more times (i still don't know what THAT was all about - that was really strange). the dash lights still come on (no green key light, BTW), but the radio will no longer come on.
i assume the battery is dying...which doesn't seem right because i JUST drove it last weekend. guess it's a good time to get that lightweight battery i've always wanted! thanks for the suggestions - this is kind of a waste of a thread since it just seems to be the battery (how obvious)...but at least if anyone else ever has this problem they can see how this one turned out. |
Maybe check the fuse thats connected to the battery.
|
if the battery/fuses/relays are all good then id take a serious look at the alarm...if its a DEI alarm (sidewinder/ viper/hornet)...it does have a starter kill relay that will disable your starter and ignition power... and when the remote start cant start the car, it will try 3 times. check for 12v power/ ground at the starter and if the smaller tab isnt getting 12v w/ the key in the start position then thats probly what it is...when you cut siren wires you short them out and very possibly could have fried the brain on your alarm... let us kno how it works out

lol mine did this it was the dealers fault the installed the starter wrong and it eventually locked up.... and destroyed the flywheel..... but i was getting all power still.....
