280's on stock ECU and turbo installed

I don't know if I'm the first but I'm sure I'm pretty close to it, Stock ECU, no piggyback.

After hearing all the worries of 280's with the stock computer, I decided to go ahead and try it anyway and just wanted to let you guys know that it is very possible, and I have not had any problems to date. I have been running the car for two weeks, the idle is very lopey, but the car does not stall. To be perfectly honest with you I have had more probelms with my BOV and intake than I am with these cams. I am waiting for my wideband to go in before I take it back to Jestr Tuning for the reflash. Currently I am running the mode 1 flash, and have just turned down the boost so as not to cause any issues. I have lost some bottom end, but the top end pulls very strong. Keep in mind the car is yet untuned for the cams, and I'm running lower boost so the before and after is kind of skewed right now. Waiting for this wideband to come in is killing me. Once it finally comes in and it is tuned I will be taking it to the dyno to post up a sheet and to the track for some new numbers. If the car is running this well before tune, once Jestr works his magic, I'm expecting some very good things in the next few weeks. Good luck to anyone else who is considering these cams on stock ecu and turbo, I have not been disappointed.

P.S. I did install cam gears, they are currently set to -2/-2.

I heard the 280's were overkill for stock turbo... Any comments on that?

work fine in my evo. :)

There many ways to get power, and cams is the most compromise of them all. Big cam is a great trade off btw drivability and power. You're are pretty much taking the power from one part of powerband and shift it to another. When you dont have any tq or hp on the low end of ur powerband, ur making it that much more difficult for daily driving.

Not to mention that losing all the tq on the low end is making the car not fun to drive at all. Why dont u guys give the 272/264 setup a try. I think that's so much more fun to drive than the straight 272s or the 280s.

While on the subject of big cams, let me touch base on big turbos too. Big turbos is like big cams. You get massive power on the top end and nothing on the low end. Now when u combine the two, ur getting no low end and all top end. After big turbos and big cams with the aem, my evo felt lose and unrefine. Slowly day by day, I started to hate it and avoid driving it at all cause. Mod smartly, or you'll be very sorry. Take care guys. Happy modding, and as for me, i'm out of the game...For now... ;)

Don't even think about it John. You will need more.

off-topic-are you replying to what i'm reading  get back to the thread :p

on-topic- i think 280s on a stock turbo are overkill.since you won't be the high in the bandwith to take advantage of them

Must of had a GT 35R. My 3037 is funner than the stocker and more civil iMO.

Hey have to admit caught you off guard. I agree no 280s for me yet. If LV Sti beats me then maybe.

gkania Mar 15, 2005 09:54 AM

Well Im not exactly sure what you guys are experiencing but after a slight retune I have regained all my torque and have a huge increase in power. Or so it seems. Not a final tune as the wideband is till not here, but I am happier than ever with the car and think I made the right choice for what I'm after. I'll be back at the track tomorrow to see how it fares now.

Chris@nolimitmotors Mar 15, 2005 02:47 PM

I'll be doing 280's with the stock turbo and reflash soon also. i'm interested to see how it does
