Can't shift to 4th as easily

I've noticed that shifting to 4th gear is much harder than the other gears and I'm starting to get concerned since the car should be fully broken in by now with 1200 miles on the clock. I've duplicated the problem with the car running in the parking lot where you push the clutch in and then shift from neutral to 4th gear. Every gear is quite easy to drop into except 4th, once everything is lined up it drops in just fine. As soon as you release the clutch and press it in again that resets everything and it's hard to shift to 4th again.

I'm considering taking the car in for a quick checkup with the service manager so that it's atleast documented before I mod the car. Does anyone else have a similar issue and would a stiff shift kit alleviate this at all?

It has been suggested that I can adjust my stock clutch to alleviate the issues but I'm thinking I should document this with :mitsu: just in case it turns out to be a deeper problem.

I dont think its a clutch adjustment problem unless the clutch disengages with the pedal almost on the floor....especially if the other gears shift fine.

My car has about 5500 miles on it and I can feel the trans still breaking in slightly.

I sometimes have this problem in 2nd gear but only when the car is cold. After it runs for a few miles its fine. A little nothcy, but fine.

if it is at ALL notchy go to mitsu. theres a service bulletin on that synchro and theyll replace it for free. while you're at it, get a clutch put it. it will only be like 1 hour labor extra because the tranny will already be out of the car. :) i should know, i did it!

I went into 3 different dealers and asked them to fix my "notchy" trans. All of them claim my trans is normal...and dont offer a tsb unless the trans grinds....which mine doesnt.

Its actually a lot better than it used to be. No thanks to the dealers. But it is better.

IDk, im used to ultra-smooth direct linkage shifts...so the evo is a little different for me.

Possible bad synchro.. have mitsu ( dealer that you trust) take a look at it.. even take them for a ride in it and show them... allways show them...
