Anyone buy fuel from an Airport>?

I have been to several airports in the area I live and work in and was wondering if anyone has ever shopped for fuel at an airport and what the pricing is like accordingly?

Also, I was curious about the toluene mixtures SCC just went over, how they said 30% is optimal and provides a good 95 octane, but the simple NOS booster in the tiny bottle brings 91 octane to 93 or so....I wonder what happens when added to Sunoco 94, or even injecting it into an alchohol system......

But Im most curious about airport fuel

you have to be careful not to get the high octane leaded gas. They do have an unleaded mixture available, but I forget what it is called.

Airport fuel? Are you talking about 100LL? I've used that as well as a few other people on the boards. It's costs roughly $2.75 a gallon. It has a lead content of approximately 5 grams per gallon which will clog up valves and fuel injectors (with repeated use), o2 sensors and catalytic converters.

If you want to boost your octane, Toluene is probably your best option price/performance/negativeSideEffects wise.

If you have 94 octane available to you already, why bother?

Unleaded fuel from the airport or AVGAS has been used by many people. The high lead content helps to fight of detonation and also it helps in lubricatiing the valves. It will hurt the oxygen sensor more quicly than regular gas, and running leaded fuel with a catcon is a no no.
The injectors will be fine with leaded gas.

biggest issue with AvGas is it is not refined as much as true race gas...so the octane numbers can vary

Much discussion about this. 100LL is a highly leaded fuel. Just because it says Low Lead that is only by aviation standards. I am an aircraft mechanic. You can run it. Just like everyone says, clogs cats and destroys o2 sensors. AVGAS IS LEADED. Do a search. 100 Low Lead is blue in color 100 avgas is red and has a higher lead content.

its best 2 use unleaded fuel..rather than buying 'low lead' fuel

anyone use liquid oxygen?

SR20DE-T Jun 7, 2005 05:39 PM

Liquid oxygen.. Impossible, first liquid oxygen is compressed gas. N20 is what u would use. Pump pure 02 in a engine and most likey result is KABOOM!!!!
