Anybody have the compressor map or maximum cfm for evo 7 or 8 turbos?

Do someone have the compressor map for the Evo VII or VIII turbos?

mitsuorder Feb 28, 2003 05:57 PM

yeah after the recent Turbo magazine out that enlightened me of so many of the technical aspects of turbos i would be interested in this as well.

That was a really good issue :headbang:

I don't think that the EVO VIII turbo has been used in any thing else before so we will probably have to wait a bit for that kind of info :dunno:

It will be interesting to see how it compairs to the typical (non- twin scroll) 16g we all know and love.

Wrong, The same reverse rotational flow turbo is the same in all the EVO's from the E5. Some had different rating due to titanium wheels and such, but still all the same.

I really wish there was a Turbo MFG in the US that would make an upgrade for these turbos. Hell, its been around for what...4 years now. If you try to contact companies in other countries(UK, JP,AU), they just tell you to buy one of there kits, which is a new manifold, turbo, etc..($4500 later). None of them offer an upgrade to something like a 20G like we are all use to doing with are T/E/L/G. They only offer a small upgrade which to me, is not worth it. Garrett makes a wheel for it, but you can get a hold of it anywhere. Or they never call you back. Maybe with it being here in the states, someone will make one......... :spin: .someday.

It is not all the same. What other EVO used a twin scroll 16g? All the different configurations (twin scroll, titanium impeller which we don't get) would change the compressor map, so I stand by my comments :dunno:

I've seen 350whp on our dyno with one of these turbo's. I'm sure 360-370 is attainable.
I've talked to some turbo manuf. and there doesn't seem to be anything usefull that will work in this reverse scroll application. I have one of these turbo on my bench and so far it looks to be the same wheels that are in a big 16g (the compressor inducer and exh. exd. measure the same). 16g's can realistically make 330-350whp , large 16g can do about 20-30 on top of that. The EVO 16g has a larger compressor cover and different design than the traditional DSM application 16g's which might lend to higher efficiency (as in a Garrett TO4e cover compared to a TO4s).

Maybe with racing gas c16.... and nitrous

350whp.... You mean flywheel right.

I am assuming you are serious. Could you list the mods that could do that...including the upgraded injectors, maybe a 20G I think.

We've been doing mitsubishi 4G63's for a few years now and we have very good guys working in our shop that know what they're doing (Adam was a rally mechanic for TAD motorsports and he worked on many Lancer EVO's before working with us). You don't need c16 or nitrous to make 350whp on a big 16g. We've had an EVO on the dyno with a stock turbo making 350whp and it wasn't maxed out. We fitted my partner's wife car ('93 eagle talon Tsi) with a regular 16g and simple bolt ons and made 330whp no sweat and we could have tweaked another 10whp if we bumped the base timing up a few degrees over stock and took the A/F from the high 11's it was running to mid 12's. Here is a list of parts:

'93 Eagle Talon Tsi (4G63t)
16G (regular) ported & clipped
3" o2 HSG, downpipe, testpipe & exhaust
HKS 272 Cams
2G MAF
FMIC (using spearco 2-221 core)
Denso 510cc/min inj.
Walbro 255lph HP pump
Apex S-AFC
Manual boost controller

I tested a lot of different cams on this car and I will have all dyno comarisons and a write-up available on our new web-site so you can see the dyno curves. BTW this was all done on 100 octane unleaded.

I know this is off topic but AMS, can you tell me how much boost you were running to make 350whp on the small 16g in your wifes car? Thanks

AMS Mar 13, 2003 08:39 PM

It was 330whp on the small (regular) 16G. The boost would spike to 21-22psi and then drop down pretty quickly to 18psi. The turbo was maxed out and was running out of flow. 18 psi is the most we could get up top. Of course freeing up the intake tract (less pressure drop) could have resulted in a 1-2 psi more but then again this was not a race car but a daily driver for his wife. I have dyno sheets for this car and a whole cam test article with dyno graphs that will be up on our new website.

Regards,

Martin

May not reflect our stock Evo 8 compressor map exactly

The Evo 6 used twin scroll. Don't remember specs for the Evo 5. It's all on the internet. Just because the Evo 4-6 didn't come to America, Evo 8 owners shouldn't assume that Mitsu made their best Evo for US market.

You have maxed the hell out of the small 16g.
