TUNERS on FMIC's what's the deal??

I have HKS cams, D/pipe & full exhaust, air filter...dynoed 291whp @ 20/21psi falling to 19 psi at redline.. on a dynojet.

Been thinking about buying a FMIC, but people say it will cause the car to loose power, get laggy, and it's not necessary on a stock turbo car??

I live in the Caribbean and it's hot as sh*t here most of the time..so I think it would be a great benefit!

What do you guys think on a car running 20/21 psi of boost daily?? Tuners your input is very welcomed!

Thanks in advance {thumbup}

The Buschur guys have shown that their intercooler makes power on the stock turbo.

If you're planing on boosting 21 psi then stick with the stock intercooler.

I'm boosting close to 30psi on the stock turbo 400whp that is why I upgraded my intercooler.

If you are below 350whp then I say you don't need an upgraded intercooler, just stick with the stock piece.

cool thanks for the input so far...

I disagree, it may not be needed, and sure, you won't pick up hardly any power on the dyno. But at speed, the stock IC has been shown time and time again to heat soak quickly and even when not heak soaked, IAT's on the stock IC are higher then on an aftermarket one. So, is it needed?? No. However, you WILL benefit from a quality aftermarket FMIC regardless of what other people will say.

1.8t I kinda have the same thinking as you, that why I think the FMIC would be beneficial....when you're "at speed" and high boost creating tons of hot air...Thanks.

I know the sidemount on the 1G was fine for 18psi... but, on the same tune, i put a small FMIC in and it was a night and day difference. I actually turned down the boost until i got the wideband back in for tuning.

There was some lag created but i've found that a nicely ported exhaust manifold and O2 housing evened it right out.

Where i'm at temps get well above 100F in summer/spring... the FMIC was way better at handling that compared to the Sidemount. Especially on the highway... it was a totally different car.

I'd say go for it!! {thumbup}

Buschers race FMIC showed a 14 hp gain on a car with cams and TBE.

I didn't really notice a difference once I installed Buschur's standard i/c besides the lag. For my day to day driving, I don't think it will benefit me a whole lot (don't do a whole lot of high speed driving in boost), but once the turbo upgrade goes it, that is when it will help. Just kind of getting things ready I guess you could say. ;)

But it looks freakin' nice behind the front bumper. lol

And FYI, the lag isn't that bad, but you can notice it (changing gears). Buschur is definitely the way to go though. BEAUTIFUL i/c!
