Mods I've been thinking about....

My mods are:

HKS dp
HKS rs intake
HKS carbon-ti
HKS 264's
HKS evc-v (21 psi tapering to about 18-19)
Perrin test pipe
Walbro 255
Exedy twin disk clutch
custom tuned by DynoFlash

Okay....I've been thinking of some simple mods to do to my car. I've been looking around and researching and was wondering what kind of input you guys had.

I see how the 05' EVO's are responding to mods compared to the 03-04's and I figured it had to do with the 10.5 hotside. I know alot of guys have done it and some like and some don't. I'm not looking for huge gains, but every little bit counts with me. I also was reading about a new wastgate actuator with upgraded spring. I'm basically trying to get the boost taper to go away. I figure with holding boost my car will feel alot better up top and I figure a 10.5 hotside and a wastegate actuator will help. I just bought a JDM MR bov and should be getting it on Monday.

THese are the three mods that I've been thinking about getting. I'm just trying simple mods on top of my existing mods to help out top end. Any opinions would be great. I figure after I do these mods I'd get custom tuned again as well.

Thanks. {thumbup}

Do you have a mbc?

deffro Nov 11, 2005 09:23 PM

Okay i see, those are the mods you have. I thought you were saying those are the mods you want to get. Nevermind

Just do a tubular manifold and SS O2 along with the hotside and Forge WGA. All of those parts are right there together, so it would be a perfect time to do them all.

You'd get the most gains out of an alky kit, though.

I worded it "simple" mods, but I also meant relatively cheap as well. As much as I would like to buy a tubular manifold I'm just not wanting to drop that kind of cash on my car now. My wife had my son about a month ago and I'm looking for simple and relatively cheap mods. I forgot about a 02 housing, but that would help with the 10.5 hotside as well.

The 10.5 hotside, 02 housing, and wastegate acuator is all pretty much in the same spot so it could be done at one time. I'll just have to accumulate these mods over some little time and do it all at once. I'll just keep my eye out on the personal sale section for these items being I've pretty much bought amost everything on my car slightly used.

As for the alky kit. I'm not into having to rely on something for my car to be faster. I'm strictly a pump gas kinda guy. I don't want to bother with buying it and filling it up all the time. If my car can't do it on the 93 oct at the pump then it just won't do it. I guess I mainly want to see what my car will do with JUST pump gas. If I ever feel froggy I'll just throw some race gas in it at the track if my curiosity gets the best of me. :)

Thanks for the replys fellas.

For boost taper with stock turbo on pump gas do this:
  1. Do a thourough boost leak check and tighten accordingly
  2. Install the BOV - it will hold better and may noticibly reduce taper
  3. Get the 10.5 to greater the supply pressure a little for sure (9.8's tend to run outta steam from the mid top of 1st)
  4. If you still got taper try the WG actuator
  5. Or do everything at once and, with your other listed mods, you'll have one heck of a racegas or alcohol ready setup with minimal taper.
I'm only at step 2 but this is my budget oriented plan and better yet, you wont need a retune for the BOV, 10.5, and WG act either.

I know I wouldn't need to be retuned for the bov and wg actuator, but I would think a retune for the 10.5 hotside would be needed.

When the bov come in, I will make sure every clamp and hose in just right. I don't think I have any leaks anyways, but I'll make sure after I install the bov.

Yess, when you install 10,5 you have to need retune.

You say all this as if boost taper is not natural. He SHOULD get boost taper. I don't even hold my boost above 20psi to redline, and it drops even more after 7k. There's no reason to expect boost not to taper on the stock turbo. Forcing it not to taper with a stiffer WGA could end up making it blow hot air by holding higher boost than it's capable of doing at high rpm.

Well, the Megan manifold is only $250 or so, which isn't that much. That's the same as a 10.5 hotside and not much more than the Forge WGA.

Alky is used with pump gas. It does have to be refilled, but it's nothing like having to refill N20 or pay for race gas. Trying to just stick with pump gas eventually just becomes hard-headed, because you will never be able to get the full potential out of your turbo due to knock implications.

I have similar mods and I recommend the ss O2 housing (turbo outlet) and the upper Ic pipe. Both upgrades are a couple hundred bucks and will help hold boost.

Easy install and kinda cheap + a few ponies...

Meth kit, you sissy pants.

Power isn't that much important to me. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I'd rather just use some bolt on parts to get my power. I guess once I max out the power of the stocl turbo on pump gas them I may move on to a different turbo down the road. I've never had race gas in my car almost the 3 years I've owned it. I think I can live without a alky kit. :)

Warrtalon....I'll look into the Megan racing manifold. For somereason I always got the impression it was cheaply made.

I thought the lower intercooler pipe was where everyone gained power from? :confused: I plan on getting a intercooler pipe kit sometime down the road as well. {thumbup}

10.5 hotside
Forge WGA
JDM MR bov (already bought)
02 housing
upper & lower intercooler pipes
Meagan racing turbo mani

If I look hard enough, I could probably get most of this stuff for about $1200-$1500 all together. Maybe a little less.

I guessing these are mods for 1/4 right?
