Boost gauge,BOV and a problem I'm having
A couple basic questions about my boost gauge, BOV and a problem I'm having.
Here's my scenario: I bought a $50 Autometer boost gauge and the guy installed the sending unit(hose) into my upper IC pipe(aluminum) just before it goes into the braded rubber hose. I was wondering how accurate these gauges are and if this location will give a reliable reading. I thought they should've installed it on the intake manifold just past the throttle body. Should it be re-located to the manifold? I'm concerned because I was getting readings of 21 psi (I installed the boost gauge after it was tuned by Al, who BTW, did a great job!). I noticed a fluttering sound would occur around 6800-7300 rpms, so when I asked Al about this he said it sounded like a leaking BOV. I replaced the factory plastic valve with a GFB Stealth BOV. I noticed upon test driving that it would now spike to 23-24 psi( at WOT) and then drop off to 21 psi. It would seem that my stock BOV was leaking and now the new one is holding, so I've been very careful to keep it @ 21 or less. Today I installed a TB exhaust (all 3" with a Maganflow resonator in place of the cat and a Magnaflow muffler) and now my boost will hit 25 psi easily and only drops when I let off (which I do as soon as it passes 23psi). The car accelerates much more quickly and is definitely making much more power with the new exhaust! I'm going to be installing an MBC on Monday and a fuel pump. I figure that I should be able turn it down to 21 psi and the fuel pump will be an added safety. I will then seek to have it re-tuned by Al. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
PS.
All the info I posted above is in referance to another Evo, not mine, just looks like mine! |
Bump, Need some help!

As long aS it dont leak where it goes in

i'd tap into the manifold vacuum or the fuel regulator vacuum. it seems to be the most accurate.

I guess I should have bought a high end gauge instead. I'm going to have them re-locate the sending unit to the manifold.
mrbkkt1, I grew up in HI. I lived in Kailua and Hawaii Kai. I used to surf the North shore every winter and south shore in the summer. Have you ever driven your Evo on Tantilus? Kalanianioli hwy going up past Haunama bay around to sandy beach must be a blast! |
