who's running the ss autochrome FMIC?

anyone running the ssautochrome fmic = ams kncok-off?

If so:

any power gains? seat of the pants or dyno?

spool up the same, better or worse?

did you notice anymore or less boost after the fmic install?

feel free to pm me your insight if you dont care to post.

Thanks

prepare your flame suit, that intercooler is largest POS ever created in the history of man. You'd have better cooling and more efficiency if you bought a ceiling fan and mounted it to the front of your car, with the cardbox still attached

Don't worry. WOT has an array of flame suits ready since he works on IRL cars everyday.

I Bought The Ss Fmic Installed It Didnt Really Feel A Difference But I Heard About The Crap They Sell So I Took It Back Off And Sold It. Lol.

I've said this many times in the Subaru forums regarding the "ebay" TMIC's, but an intercooler is not simply putting together some bar and plate rows and calling it a day. Internal fin design, materials used, and most importantly ENGINEERING
& TESTING is required to create a good intercooler.

For example the Helix TMIC's that we assisted in developing we spent hours and hours of testing, logging, then forwarding the results. Flow benching, dyno testing, pressure measurements, IAT and charged air temperature measurements, on vehicle testing, etc. in us going through 5 core designs and 2 endtanks designs. And keep in mind the initial fin and endtank design was designed by an automotive engineer that is involved in honda's turbo program and is now working on the new NSX.

I have personally cut open "ebay" intercoolers to see passages that are designed for oil/fluid being used as air/air intercoolers. Not saying this is always the case, but I think this gives an idea of the lack of engineering behind a lot of the cheaper intercoolers. Be careful what you buy. :)

That said Helix will be releasing a 3.5" intercooler shortly for the EVO. :)

Cheers,

Gary

Thanks for the personal input {thumbup}

Everyone else, thanks for voicing your experience / what you've heard.

How about getting them to come up with a IX LICP for their piping kit?

we tested a few in Puerto Rico. Most of the cars gained a good amount of whp(16whp-23whp) after retunning. But with AMS, Nisei and TurboXS we see a larger gain(22whp-27whp). Its a cheap option.

Most people see pretty good gains from the IC, do a search for XSpower. I have one sitting in the garage waiting to install. For $100.00 I figured why not give it a try. The construction honestly doesn't look bad at all. It has a nice bar and plate core, its not one of those 'cut down' truck radiators some ebay vendors were passing off as intercoolers.

Once I hit 12.5's with my current setup i'm going to throw it on and retune it on the dyno, then head back to the track and see if I actually have repeatable results.

So you can see those big gains in gp by just adding a new FMIC? Do you need other supporting mods too?

you need retunning, without retunning the AFR changes dramatically most of the time. In our case in Puerto Rico we see bigger gains than you guys, maybe because of the weather, its very hot and humid all year long and we get very good gains from it. But you always need retunning!

Okay, so since I'm in AZ I would be able to see a pretty big difference too then right? It gets real hot here in the summer and not too cold in the winter.

Who said cheap I/C suck???Supra hit 9.6:eek: (Low boost,no nitrous) on Ebay intercooler, header and fan with Percison 76GTS!!

jqturbo Jul 11, 2006 11:14 AM

There's also a couple kats in my side of town runnin' 11's and 12's with their Ebay fmic's! Maybe they got a good set, I dunno.

From what I hear by people who don't have them, they're cheap and garbage. But from what I hear from people who actually have them and tried them, they're good.
