Forged Pistons and Rods in the EVO?
Does the EVO have forged internals?
One of the major drawbacks of the WRX is the lack of forged Pistions and Rods! Please tell me that the 4G63 in the USDM EVO has forged internals! Thanks, Andy |

Where did you get this info from, jfh?

Not sure if I really believe them, but so far, all the mags claim that the crank, conrods, AND pistons are forged.
Personally, I've noticed that the engine seems a bit noisy when cold, them seems to quiet down after warmup. Cars w/ forged pistons have this trait due to the expanding of the piston, so who knows? :dunno: |

There is no need for the Evo's pistons to be forged. Mitsu has their stuff together when it comes to making pistons for forced induction. They are strong. The ECU does a good job at keeping everything happy. The oil squirters pointed at the piston bases keep things cool.
People have run stock DSM pistons into the 10s in the 1/4mi. They are not the weak point. |
Pistons.
Forged pistons are quite forgiving when tuning goes wrong, but if you are doing it properly you should not melt or break anything.

not forged
the pistons in the evo's 4g63 second generation are not forged
and the rods are not forged either, i have built many of these motors and know for a fact that they break easily when you start to reach the range of 350 HP. The Crank shaft is good for around 500 HP but i have not broken one yet at over this, but with new pistons and con rods the engine 500 HP pluss is easy oh and intercooler upgrade is needed after 20 PSI boost. the stock pistons and rods were made realy small to save weight they are very week. for high boosted big turbos, :mitsu: |

I totally agree with Marc Pogson.
If Mitsubishi had suddenly decided to use forged engine parts on the Evo 8, they would mention it whenever they can... |
|
That is settled. EVO VII and EVO VIII have differences in internal engine components. EVO VIII pistons and Rods are stronger.
|
I saw that before. I'll believe it the day someone shows me an Evo 8 rod or if someone from Mitsubishi shows me a technical datasheet for the rods.
