Steam cloud when it's raining?

Since the EVO hood exposes the exhaust manifold, do any of your guys experience a steam cloud when say stopped at a light?

It's normal. the steam is from water drop on to the exhuast Manifold cover. I have the samething sometime during the mornings when theres morning dew on the car. don't worry about it.

You wonder if Mitsu figured a hot exhaust manifold just might crack when showered with cold water?

If it was much of a concern, do you think Mitsubishi or any other manufacturer would produce a hood with big holes in it?

The Evo has had hood vents for as long as it's existed. Japan in known for getting a lot of rain in some regions, as are places in Europe.

I wouldn't worry about it. Any trouble you'd get into because of the vents isn't likely to be due to rain.

that's part of the exhaust manifold covers job... keep things away from the manifold itself...

Take way more than rain or car wash water to cause any issues. Look at what the rally cars swim through in certain stages. Block would be far more susceptible to cracking than manifold and that doesn't happen either. Might get it to fail with a direct attack with a CO2 fire extinguisher. If that won't do it try liquid nitrogen!

I like the looks I get from other drivers as it steams through the vent. Flames are next.

We had had quite a LOT of snow since I've had mine...and its really a pain in the arse when that vent gets packed with snow/ice. I dont really think its going to hurt anything..just going to cause it to rust very fast. I picked up my evo on 3/10 and its pretty rusty already. However, that vent is VERY effective on really warm days..I'll deal with the rust. :)

I have noticed alot of rusty exhaust manifolds and heat sheild screws on brand new Evos lately....

spyderturbo May 30, 2003 10:11 AM

my bolts and manifold are a bit rusty as well. The design makes me wonder...but I really dont think they would of made it this way if it actually posed a risk of any sort.

I actually think its cool seeing the steam come out briefly and the heat waves when I'm stopped in general :spin:

Wouldn't know. We barely get any rain here in So. Cal. :D
