Help car feels like it's dying after Hids
Hi guys I need some help :( I had kaixen 6000k hids installed 2 days ago. The kit came was plug and play so it was easy to install, only other thing was to replace was the stock fuse to a 20 which was included in the kit. After the hids were installed and the fuse the car feels like it's dying. Now here is the problem while on idle the car starts to studder and when I put it in gear to drive it feels like it's going to stall on me. This only happens when I turn on the lights, when they are off it works fine. The car has almost 9k miles on it and I have the stock battery. I don't have anything that measure voltage :crap: . Also one of the ballast I could not find where to put it so I ended up placing it ontop of the MAF can someone tell me if this can cause the problem??????
1- Do I need to replace my battery???? 2- Could it be the fuse that i replaced??? 3- Could it be the installation on the MAF??? ( tomorrow i will take it off there and see how it goes for those who will say try this first {thumbup} ) 4- could it be something else?????? I need :helpme: :helpme: and appreciate any suggestions |
I'm not familiar with the HID kits.
However, I would certainly suggest moving the ballast away from the MAF. |
I would reinstall the factory fuse (if it blows big deal)..and go from there

I don't see how the fuse could cause the problem. If it isn't blowing the fuse...no problem. The larger fuse will only allow for larger draws for the larger demand of the HIDS. Shouldn't effect performance what-so-ever.
Having the ballast installed over a sensitive sensor in the MAF on the other hand could cause some problems. Especially with the current draw running through the ballast. |

what sucks guys is that i would have mounted the ballast to the frame on both sides but the damn ballast didn't come w bracket it only came w double sided tape so i can't screw it anywhere =(

Humm....good and bad advice here....
Yadi, I should take pics for you of how I mounted my HID kit..... I also have upgraded my fuses to 20 amp units which are fine. But check to see if your MAF plug is plugged in cuz if its not the car is gonna stumble and run like crap.... If you have an OBD2 scanner plug it in for the heck of it to see if the car is throwing any codes..... too bad you werent closeby, otherwise I'd be a good brother and let you use mine... I can tell ya this I hid my ballasts in the wheel wells out of the engine compartment.... on the driver side the ballast is mounted and zip tied around the ACD pump, and on the passenger side I have the ballast mounted behind the oil cooler.... The locations I chose never gave me any problems and are well hidden....one could pop open my hood and not even see my ballasts.... you can even take off my wheels and see nothing either since its hidden well enough that water wont even get near it.. |
my balasts are 3M taped inside the fenders behind the headlights, pretty nifty

zip ties are your best friend... trust me... they hold anythign and everything without and resiction or damage...
the ballast may be getting too hot and throwing the maf off... a fuse is just meant to transfer power... the transer the same everytime doesnt matter hold old it is or if its about to pop its always 100% or 0% solid or broken i would almost put money at the ballist where you at moroso tonight, not racing just hanging out... saw a couple yellow babies parked togeht in the lot cheers! |
my car does the same some times but never stalls and the idel comes back up .... but i also have a yellow top in the car

The amp draw from the hids could be lowering the idle speed, try bumping the idle up 75rpm or so. I would also move the ballast just to be sure it is not interfering with the maf.
