What are you afr's on pumpgas?

As the title states...

What are the tuners tuning to for best power and safety margin?

Ultimate CC Feb 11, 2007 11:03 AM

its different on the pump gas 91 93 94 and it also varies on mods and aggressiveness of tune...

in calif with 91 octane, many are tuning for 11.2 afr or in that range.

well we have 93 here in louisiana, the afr varies.cruising its 14.5 to 14.6 at wot true the gears 11.0 to 11.3 and sitting there on idell its 12.5 to 12.6

during closed loop (idle & cruising) AFR's should be at stoich which is 14.7, for open loop (wide open throttle) AFR's can really be anywhere from 10.8 to 11.3 for a safe tune but timing plays a huge role in the tune and determinimg how safe it is...too much timing = knock which = boom....there are a lot of factors to consider - timing, boost press, afr's, etc....

The reason I asked is bc it seems like everyone is tuned very conservatively. Mine hits 11.9ish at WOT.

I checked the aem log and my counts of knock never exceed 1 and the timing is right around 7 degrees...

any input?

A few questions:

1. Did you calibrate your wideband sensor lately? Does your wideband throw an error if your sensor is dying?

2. The 7 degrees of timing is @ what RPM? Give us a breakdown of your timing by rpm please.

If you are using an AEM, it doesn't have the knock sum logic that the stock ECU uses. So, saying that you see no knock on an AEM doesn't mean much. It matters how the AEM is configured, and even then I wouldn't trust the knock algorithms as much as I would in the stock ECU.

11.9 seems kinda high on pump but I would try to contact your tuner and let him know whats going on w/ your car

1. I have the aem wideband. How would I go about calibrating it?

2. timing is 4k=13 5k=13 5k=7.9 6k=7.9 at WOT
