What's the best air filter?

Or is the stock's good enough?

flevo8 Mar 11, 2007 06:49 PM

if you're asking the question, stock is generally good enough.

Main reason to switch would be for sound/looks.

Pretty much all aftermarket systems throw off the MAS and require a re-tune for debatably negligible gains.

EDIT: that being said, I have the Injen hard pipe kit w/ a K&N cone filter and its a little too loud, honestly.

I have, use and like my Blitz LM Filter with the Induction cover. I also keep the fresh air feed in place.

Good performance boost, no check engine lights, maintains warrantee, sounds awesome!...I think the whole thing was $115 with shipping!

Blitz!

It all depends on what power level you want your evo to be at. I think if your going to just stay under the 300whp mark (Mustang Dyno), then a drop-in filter would do. Example: HKS drop-in, K&N, works, ralliart, etc. Now, if your going to want more than the 300whp mark, than an open air filter would probably be more recommended due to the added air the engine will be sucking in. More air, more fuel will always trigger out more HP.

I run the Buschur filter and pipe kit...but in all honesty if your not heavily modifying your evo then a good drop-in will work just fine

Just throw a K&N drop in filter. The stock air box is good for up to around 400whp.

MondoBongo Mar 15, 2007 12:30 PM

i have a k&n drop in filter. from everything i have heard the stock airbox is good for gobs of power.

i would say just get a drop in filter until you reach a power level where you need more air.
