Need help car died, won't start
 

Sitting in traffic my car started to idle rough and then just quit on me. Pushed it off the road still won't crank over. Thought I maybe ran out of gas, put some in still won't crank. It tries to start but just keeps turning, turning and never catches and tries to crank even the slightest. I check all my IC piping and all appears to be normal. Thinking fuel pump. I have a walboro. My mods are HKS 280's, BR FMIC, BOV, TBE, etc. Any ideas? Going to try and switch out the pump when my friends get off work in a few hrs. Thanks.

Any "work" or mods added recently? Rain? drive in a puddle? what is your engine management? ECU? FLASH? did you run out of gas? Was the light on? is this a habit to run low on gas?

Listen to your trunk when you turn the key to the accessory, if the pump is ok you'll hear it prime...I can hear mine through the interior no problem. Did you check your fuses?

All mods have been on for over half a year with no problems. Have been flashed for them for just as long. No rain or puddles nice day just sittin idling in traffic then it dies. Gas light wasn't on and yes I run low on gas sometimes but not always.

Can't hear the pump that's why I'm thinking thats the case. Going to try and swtich the stocker back in and see if it fires up. Didn't check the fuses I will when I go back to it.

What year/mileage is the car? Check the fuel filter?

Edit: yeah you should easily be able to hear it prime, just make sure you switch to accessory...don't try to turn over the car.

2005 with 30k on it

Open the fuel door, and have a friend try to start the car while you stick your ear to the fuel port. If you don't hear the pump whining its dead. Next step, grab a spare spark plug and unplug one of the plug wires and attach the spare spark plug to the unplugged wire. Have your friend try to start the car and watch to see if it sparks. Remember to lay the spark plug down on something metal (so its grounded). If you aren't getting any spark, its an ignition problem. If you are getting both fuel and spark, and the engine is turning over properly, you must have a vaccuum leak, bad timing belt, or bent valves (do a compression test).

Will do, heading down to try eveything in half an hour. Praying its not bent valves.

Any chance spark plugs can foul just like that to the point where it won't crank?

Doubt the plugs would foul themselves that bad that quick at an idle, maybe a coil pack but not the plugs.

Why do you think bent valves? I don't think it is anything serious at all. Did you get sideways? or do some wierd driving before it happened? Did you try to do the battery disconnect deal?
