EGT probe placement

This has probley been covered but what the hell, got the EGT gauge but where is the correct spot to drill the whole for the probe? Different people have different ideas so I don;t know which is the correct way? Chime in quick, it's a kickass day here and I need to get out and work on my Evo. :spin:

Thanks Bros

hey i dun have an evo but i heard they already have a pre-drilled hole on top of one the header. i think you just unscrew a screw and screw ur pobe in. hope this helps.

careful of the swarf getting into the impeller housing when you drill it out

I see no pre-drilled hole anywhere. So just drill a hole through heat sheild and the header huh.

nightrider Jun 21, 2003 07:54 PM

well look at teh pic and where its pointing. if there isnt a hole there then u might have to unscrew and drill one urself. but i clearly remember reading that that person didnt have to drill.

That's my picture and I had to drill.. no such tapped 1/8 NPT hole exists

I hope you took off the header to drill and tap??? If not How did you get ridge of the metal shavings.

Thanks

He might've drilled the hole while the engine was running, so it would blow the chips out.

,

Yes I have seen that done. But not everything is cleaned even thow. I also see a magnet take up most of the metal but still not the most ideal way.
