Can't boost past 12psi. I give up!

Well last weekend I started the install on my new wastegate, manifold, o2 housing, and new boost controller. I replaced all of the vaccum lines and everything and still can't boost more than 12psi with the mbc all the way up. I'm sick of the evo, it's just problem after problem. So next weekend I will be trading my car in for an Sti. Anyone know what I can do to get my boost right before I trade it in? thanks

Have you tried a boost leak check?

powdevo13 Jun 9, 2007 10:24 AM

you have the right lines hooked up?

subrwho Jun 9, 2007 10:26 AM

yep, the right lines are hooked up. The only thing I could think of, is I have a small exhaust leak where the manifold meets the hortside, but its not a bad leak at all, I dont think that would be my problem. .

Even if my EVO only boost 5lbs and and i had a million problems with it, I would never trade for a sti.

now to the problem, Your boosting wastegate pressure. so you either hooked the lines to the MBC up wrong or you have a major boost lea, or you hooked the mbc wrong.

Heres how the mbc is hooked up. . (and my wastegate is after market, 17psi)
Wastegate to bottom of the Halman mbc. Line off the side of the mbc to the bov line. With the turbo nipple and intake capped.

Dont give up so easy. Do a boost leak test, guaranteed you have a leak somewhere.

subrwho Jun 9, 2007 10:36 AM

Already did a boost leak test, and just replaced all the lines a anyways. Like I said I have an exhaust leak, but that wouldn't cause it right?

idriveanevo Jun 9, 2007 10:38 AM

yea, i would trade it. its unfixable and will never work properly. trade for the sti and if you leave it stock you wont ever have to work on it again, just get the extended warranty....

Evo8yurAMG Jun 9, 2007 10:41 AM

lol...you have a boost leak or connected something wrong. you said you replaced all the vaccuum lines which involves alot more than just those 2 lines you just said...my recomendation is to take all the lines off and put them on again. if that doesnt fix it then of course you can check for a leak somewere. one of your lines might have a hole in it or something

but seriously...you havent taken it to a professional to give you there expert opinion? and your still gonna trade it in for an STi. thats just craziness. sounds like you have been thinking about an STi for a while. so maybe even after you get the problem fixed sell it for something that will make you happy

belizelittle39439 Jun 9, 2007 10:41 AM

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with the car. You modded it and now you're having problems with the mods. Go trade it in and let someone who knows the difference between a boost leak and an exhaust leak fix it in about 20 minutes.

Evo8yurAMG Jun 9, 2007 10:42 AM

you said you intsalled a new wastegate....maybe you have it set too low. my buddies car did this too...exaclty 12 psi...check the wastegate

belizelittle39439 Jun 9, 2007 10:47 AM

That's another thing...why the 18psi wastegate if you're only going to boost 22psi? Are you planning on going with more boost?

An exhaust leak there could cause problems. Can you hear the leak, or just see it? You also may need to adjust you WGA arm. Was it easy to get the turn buckle over the WG flapper? If so, that could be your problem. Shorter WGA arm means more boost.
