What's happening to my Brembos?

Hi guys, is it normal for the brakes to peel and skretch like mine? Only the front r/h side is like that. I do hear skreeching sounds when braking but I doubt it's got to do with it. What is happening? And the engine sound's ain't right too.... I can hear loud whinning sound sometimes when accelerating. When the sound comes on, it's usually till the end of my trip. Pls do advise.....

The scratch in the caliper looks as if something had got stuck between the caliper and the rim and scratched it. Is there a lot of gravel where you live?

The whining sound could be the gearbox or the power steering or something stuck in between the brake pad and disc. Is there a scratch on the disc, too?

The disc is ok and there aren't any gravels here. It only happened two days ago. I was shocked when I check on the brakes today to find out about the peeling. There were only skretches when I first found out. I've checked the callipers and there's nothing stuck. As for the whinning sound, it's more like a faulty compressor kind of noise to me. But it's still the same when I off the A/C.

I'd take this stuff to the dealership and let them try and figure it out - it is under warranty after all. It could be nothing, but at least if it is something, you'll have documentation that you asked about it.

Just act stupid when you goto the dealer. I'm pretty sure they will replace it for free :headbang:

The brake caliper paint seems to be peeling. I agree with Claudius; from the scratch mark it appears something got caught in there.

As for the whining noise, does it go away if you depress the clutch? When it comes on, is your engine hot or cold? And most importantly, what mods have you done to your car?

ds18 Jul 2, 2003 02:57 AM

er..... there ain't any warranty for me..... It's a 20mths old car (bought it 2nd hand) and it's a parallel imported vehicle(not through authorised agents) I believe it's not normal by the way you guys reply.... What should I do???

Crufty Dusty Jul 2, 2003 03:00 AM

He's driving an Evo 7.... it's definitely out of warranty and I wouldn't trust the car with Cycle and Carriage (distributor for Mitsubishi cars in Singapore).

The whining noise comes when the car is warmed up. It comes on only when I throttle. No mods. Just the usual boost controllers and defi meters.

good luck! that is a $1400...almost $1500 caliper. I don't think they will replace it as easily as you think.

take it to a reputable garage. they will fix the sound, they might also have second hand calipers from someone who went to APs

shirokuma Jul 2, 2003 05:06 AM

Just because a brake caliper has a scratch (or scratches) on it doesn't mean it needs to be replaced. If it bothers you enough, repaint it.

The rest is something that should be checked on.

Cheers,

you must be generating a tremendous amount of heat there to have the clearcoat to be peeling away from the caliper like that...
