SRT-4 owner crossover to the dark side Q's??
hey guys, i just sold my SRT-4 and I think im considering a switch to AWD, not new to DSM's but i am to AWD....im looking into either a 03 evo (cheaper) or else a 06 MR (baller status and 6 speed)....I already know about the differences in turbo's as well as the front fascia looks like the Gialla front end....questions i have:
Strength wise is the 5 speed and 6 speed near the same level?? I would assume the 5 speed would hold more just because its a proven design that has been arround for 10+ years, am I right? Transfer cases, how much will the stock one hold....im really looking for something to beat on...I do a lot of roll racing but I want to be able to lay on it from a dead stop when I need to... Who sells a reflash system that I can reflash myself? Im looking to buy a data logging type of flasher that I can reflash when I ever i want to...install cams,reflash....install TBE, reflash....ect How is it tuning with a MAF? Im coming from a MAP and that was a pain in the ass for timing adjustments i'd rather shoot myslf in the foot....I cant seem to find anyone that sells a modified/gutted/or better MAF sensor???? I guess thats it, herewas the initial set up im looking at: GSC cams S1, AEM cam gears, Portd stock mani, BR 20g, O2 housing, BR turbo back, BR Front mont, BR IC pipes, Ported TB/IM, 680cc inj, 255 pump, BR alcohol injection, Exedy twin plate clutch..... GOALS were: 11's / 120 et, is that possible?(not really sure what the 20g can muster on stock driveline and engine), near 400hsp and matching torque, I did most of my shopping from BR, partly because he is a great guy(sent me a shirt when I was deployed :usflag: ) as well as he's closer to me than AMS....Im a fairly good tuner(SAFC and Return line's) so im sure a data logger will be easier to pick up :crap: ? What do you guys think |
I also came from an SRT-4 so let me see if I can help.
For drag racing the 5spd and 6spd are fairly durable. People are saying that the 6spd's are weaker on the track where the drivetrain is put under constant stress, but I do not own a 6spd so I can't tell you from personal experiences. Transfer cases are hit and miss. With roll racing you won't have to worry about it as much. The 05-06's are supposedly stronger because of the larger housing and the LSD. To reflash all you have to do is buy the cable and you can download the software for free. From what I've experienced between the two cars, it's much easier to tune the MAF on the Evo's. I'm running the GM MAF on my car with the translator. Your goal is definitely possible. |
Sounds like you know the answers to your own questions!!!
Drivetrain wise I think its safe to say the 5 speed is stronger and better for drag racing. Transfer case I believe rely's on the driver and how hard they are on the car and how good they are at finesse the clutch. As far as flash capability ecuflash is free along with mitsulogger or evoscan. Ecuflash has proven its ability with several examples of higher H.P. cars> |
i know who you are DSMfan, at least you still write in the Fayetville thread on SRTforums....you were supposed to run a 95 cobra once, i set that race up, either way {offtopic} ....
I can finese petty well, SRT-4's from a dig are near impossible, i got pretty good... So I can reflash on my own, thanks for the info and companies.... Still curious about the trannies, i would like to hear from some of the 06+ owners... Still curious about the MAF, do they still sell the 3" GM MAF (i had one with a MAF translator on my 97 GST)... thanks for the info, what RPM do you guys drop the clutch from? What type of drag set ups do you have? Falken 615 street tires? Would it be more benfitial as well as cost effective to just go with a 3076r kit (would save money on the ported mani, 20g, and o2 housing)...like i said the car will see more roll racing than dead stop...i dont wanna build the engine quite yet so i guess that would rule gt35r out, right? |
I could give you some info on the MR. I'm just to effin' exhausted tonight to type. I'll post tomorrow if I have sometime at work.
If I forget, PM me if your still interested Nick |
haha you def will love the switch... i came from a turbo 240.. and couldnt be happier
|
I myself also switched from an 04 SRT-4 to an 06 EVO IX GSR.

I may be completely wrong but I do believe the 2006 6 speed differs from the 2005's with a different part number atleast for the 4th gear. But definetely double check that.
