480's-500+ whp?
Hey guys. I dont have an evo yet, but I've started to do some shopping, and working on a gameplan. (I'll be getting an evo 9 ix) So far I've set my goal at around the high 400's, however I want the flexibility to go beyond that and not have to spend tons of $$ and replace everything. What would be a good setup to achieve those #'s? A parts list would be really helpful. Thanks in advance guys

Well I think you need to define a ton of money first of all. The evo is cheap to mod for maximizing the stock turbo, but after that it can snowball and get expensive very quick. The HP levels you are wanting to achieve will require a turbo kit with a bunch of other supporting mods that all add up very fast. Not to mention strengthening the drivetrain to handle all of that power, tuning, and proper gauges to monitor everything. It all adds up! Honestly if you want to stay within a budget, you better off trying to max out the stock setup. Its still good for 11 second passes at the track. If thats not good enough for you then start looking on vendor sights and check out there upgrade paths. Those will take you to where you want to be. Here are a few:

35r with supporting bolt ons and cams 280s actually stock motor will put you right around 475-500...and if you want to build the motor you can go to infinity and beyond!!!!!

first, suggest do a search. It's a great feature and you can do a lot of research and learning that way.
second, what type of dyno? They can differ as much as 15-20%. 500 whp on a dynodynamics is not equal to 500 whp on a dynojet. third, expect to spend a ton of money to reach 500 whp. You're gonna be replacing a lot of stuff, especially if you want reliability. |
It MAY be possible with just:
QTP Downpipe: $400 K&N Drop In: $50 20G-9LT Green: $1000 Walbro 255: $80 PTE 780cc: $260 LC-1 Wideband: $200 JDM MAP (instead of boost gauge, also for stock ECU EBC): $130 #65 boost pill: $10 C16: $8/gallon Self-tune @ 28psi: $0 $2500 total... maybe, just MAYBE possible :D But if you want "flexibility to go beyond that" then you will need something like a GT35R kit. |
I hope you don't mind running race gas or meth injection, you're going to need one or the other for that lofty goal and I would skip the evogreen turbo, go with a 35R {thumbup}
