Well, I'm pretty sure my Tilton is slipping.

Pardon my slight newbie-ness with this post, but I searched and read as much as I could and I just want confirm my suspicions.

On my way back from a road trip this past weekend I was caravaning with a group of people. I was playing catch-up at one point, when I dropped back into fourth (at 50 ish I'd imagine) and got onto it. I got a louder engine note, followed by not a lot of movement, then the sound died to a more normal tone and I took off. At the time I wasn't even paying attention to the guages, but later in the trip I tried again keeping a close on on the boost gauge and FJO. AFRs and boost were fine (11.1 and 22psi respectively). I took it easy the rest of the drive, but tonight I went out and found some desolate road to experiment. The car holds fine from a slow roll in lower gears (WOT 1-3 and into 4). Downshifting from 5th however causes an ~1k surge, before the RPMs drop back down and catch. From a roll in 5th the same thing happens, both instances accompanied by a much louder exhaust note before the clutch grabs.

Now, my questions:
1. This is a slipping clutch, correct?
2. The clutch needs to be rebuilt, by Tilton, and until they see it price is questionable?

I'm not sure the exact age on the clutch, it was installed by the previous owner (by Titan actually)...and I just haven't had a chance to get in contact with him yet.

Thanks for any help.

Go ahead and call them. There rebuilds are ushually around 250 - 500 dollars. When I got mine rebuilt, it ran me 435. Get that thing out, ship it, and call em. They are very very worthwhile.

If you decide to go with a different clutch, PM me and give me a price how the clutch sits, and ill probably pick it up off you.

Thanks.
