New to Evo's- Please help
Two months ago I was working in a house and spotted an 05 Evo rs in the corner of the garage. Looked dusty and like it hadnt been moved in a while. I offered the homeowner 15 grand and the next day the car was mine. What i know about the car:
It has 4,000 miles, yes thats four thousand. the back seat was removed, and a custom roll cage installed inside, strecthing from the trunk through to the front seat. It has a TEIN shocks with an electonic controller. Stock brakes and wheels with slitted racing slicks. Clutch- Now this is the fun part, The guy i bought it from who bought it new and who set it up for racing didnt have any paper work on the mods, but he did install a racing puck clutch. He didnt remember even what kindof clutch it is, and I havent found out myself either. The other day i was shifting into second quite agressively and did some damage to the clutch, hopefully not the tranny. Shifting into reverse, first and second now is very noisy, grinding, squeeking, etc. Down shifting is a joke as well. There is also a service engine soon light on. Im simply trying to sell this car. Does anyone have any recomendentations as to what clutch i should replace the other one with? Obviously this car was being set up to race. Do you think i would be better off to sell it as is? With a clutch on its way out? I know very little about this car, I bought it simply as an investment and now need my money back out of it for taxes. Any ideas? Thank you, Caleb-the new guy from colorado. (by the way im going to weep when i sell this thing, i love it) |
Why was he willing to let it go so cheap? This sounds really fishy considering the guy didn't even know what kind of clutch is in the car. Your best bet is to take it to a reputable shop in your area and have them thoroughly check it out.

The guy is a Lemans Racer, Lives in aspen and is LOADED. He liked me, was a nice guy and just didnt want to deal with the hassle of selling it. In short i got lucky.

Sounds like you damaged the trans instead of just the clutch.
|
Why do you say that?

Good thing you got lucky with the price of the car, because I have to agree with a damaged trans too. If your having problems downshifting and lots of griding and such it sounds like your synchros went out and are taking the gears with them. Check out www.sheptrans.com and just go ahead and buy one of his trans. You'll never have to worry about a problem again.

****. are there any ways to tell if thats the case or not, wether its my clutch or tranny or both?
