This thread will serve as a discussion thread for settings and advice for the HKS EVC VI electronic boost controller. Please post up your settings and boost characteristics. {thumbup}

My settings.
Wastegate boost = 14.0psi
Target boost = 24.0psi
Correction coefficient (gain) = 75

I see a high 23.x spike but it tapers to 21.x and then stays constant. RPM and TPS are tapped in the ECU but I have not mapped it on the EVC. Could someone please make a write up on how to map boost with RPM? :)

Set the function menu to 5 (Bottom button, push until you see FUN 1, push and hold the round knob, 1 flashes, turn until you see 5, push the knob in again).

Now you'll have to set your RPM axis.

Use 2500-7000 and space them out evenly.

The TPS axis for me was 25-100, spaced out evenly.

When setting the axises make sure you start at the 5th position 1st, or else you'll have issues modifying the next cell because its of a greater value.

Since you do not have the EWS you'll need to draw your 5x5 map out on a piece of paper for the Offset Map and the also the Boost Correction Map.

On the BCM, as you make the map remember that you're only entering the amount of boost you want it corrected, based on the RPM and the TPS.

Not the total boost you want it to target.

The BCM is used to bring boost in earlier with in reason.

Here is an example of what the grid might look like without the RPM and TPS axises.

On the Offset Map you'll need to set up the same 5x5 grid but here you'll use the 0-199. The TPS and RPM axises are already done, so you're ahead of the game there.

In the Offset Map, 100 is the midway point, so you could technically look at 0-99 as negative numbers.

The Offset Map is use to control taper.

I'm still working on the maps so neither of these will do you any good and are only examples. It helps the get the Easy Writer Software so that one can visualize the maps. It also logs and graphs. Not a complete write up as I am still in the process of dialing it in.

Hey Swoln, any luck in figuring out the boost correction map? I just starting
playing with the EW software. Can get my boost to hold pretty consistent
with only 1.5psi taper but it's coming on slow for my taste. BCM should help this.

Have you tried to use just FUN 3? ... its not the grid, and only operates on 100% throttle. Not as difficult as the 5x5 grid set-up. Also try to use the RPM axis, and make the rpm a few hundred rpms before your boost comes in to bring it in earlier.

Yep I'm using FUN 3, I'm using a set-up guide I got from turbodawg. I'll try setting the rpm sooner to see if that helps. Are you still going to try the 5x5?

Well the thing is, I paid money for it. I'm not sure if he is still selling it or not.
I know he is on the forum still in the X forums. It's not that I won't share but I
hate to take away from him putting it together ya know? If you ask him and
he doesn't care let me know.

Well I'll tell you the truth the guide helps dramtically and is worth the cost.
It really doesn't have any more info then the standard hks guides but puts
it into terms where you can understand them. Literally 20 min and I had it
dialed in and that includes setting up FUN 3 to decrease taper! I want to
start digging into the easy writer software and increasing responce.

Hey Mike I too have the guide, but the guide is for taper only with the RPM axis set up the way it is. The guide got me going, but there is much more to the EVC. If you rescale the RPMs to start at say 3000 or 2900 and equalize the RPMs out to 7000 you'l be able to control the onset of boost. ie bringing it in earlier. Using the boost correction map in FUN 3, you can add boost in the begining of the RPM range. ...and with the EWS you can log it nicely too.

Thanks for the nice words about my setup guide. I did spend a lot of time getting things working perfectly. HKS told me that it wouldnt work, but I knew it would, so I went about it on my own. I spent alot of time figuring it out and then writing up the procedure so any person could figure it out. I am glad I succeeded in making an easy to follow manual.

In my opinion you can not get the boost to come on measurably faster with adding boost pressure down low on the boost map. If you actually see how the stepper motor is working it completely shuts off flow to the wastegate until a certain boost pressure is seen. This boost pressure is a function of the set boost pressure. If you notice with the EVC and any other EBC the part throttle response is real jumpy, because boost comes on too quickly. If I were to use the throttle input into the system, I would use it to pull back boost at lower TPS values to minimize this jumpiness and make the car smoother to drive part throttle. Then in the upper RPMs let it run normal.

Mike, so with the setup manual, did you get the boost to hold rock solid at 22 psi to 7500 RPM?

HKS EVC VI is a nice boost controller it's a little tricky to set up but it hits boost sharp. i don't my map setting right now but i'll probably post some later.
