GSCs1's installed, idles low now

I had my GSCs1's installed today and now the idle is a little low, 700-800rpm, gives that lumpy sound. Is there an easy way to adjust the idle speed without going into the ECU? It feels like it is about to die. Thanks.

Chemwarrior May 27, 2008 02:27 PM

The only way that I'm aware is going into the ECU. I'm also looking at the S1's. How do you like them? Have you been tuned yet for them? I'm curious as to what kind of gains they will give.

700-800 rpm's isn't low at all. That's about normal.

You can raise your idle using a Tactrix cable and ECUFlash if you want to though.

mudduck May 27, 2008 02:40 PM

700-800rpm is normal idle after car has warmed up... You now have a cammed car - either get used to the lope or have your tuner adjust the idle to like 900rpm...

I haven't had it tuned yet, I will be driving to Memphis to to have Mellon do it. I don't want to jump on it before the tune is in. I will get you a review and have Mellon post the logs after. As far as the idle, I bought the car used and it has always idled at 900-950, silky smooth. I didn't know what the idle RPM was supposed to be set at. Thanks...nothin wrong with a little lump...sounds like a cammed car!

900-950 is a little higher than normal.

Good choice on Mellon, BTW.

Chris did my first tune and after I install my cams I will also drive over to Memphis to have him retune. I live in Clarksville, TN so it's only about a 2-3 hour drive to Memphis. I just saw the video on the cam install in the how-to section and was amazed at the simplicity. I will have to get some special tools (I'm sure my wife will be pleased) to make the install easy though.

Gary@MellonRacing May 27, 2008 03:00 PM

good luck on your tune with mellon

Chemwarrior May 27, 2008 03:07 PM

He doesn't need luck because Chris has mad skills.

EVOEMS May 27, 2008 03:10 PM

Chris did my tune after my first set of mods, I was really pleased with the results. The entire character of the car changes with the tune, it is definately the most important part of the upgrade process so no suprise that I am going back to Mellon for round two. Will keep you all updated. Thanks to everyone at EvoM for all of the help with my new purchase. The evo is not a car, it is an obsession..need more power......

you can adjust idle without going into the ecu is you really wanted to. Just go to the intake manifold and where the throttle cable is bolted you can loosen it and pull it so the butterfly will open more in the tb.

cinek May 27, 2008 04:25 PM

thats normal-its gonna change after the tune mine was the same way

kanyonkid May 27, 2008 04:30 PM

ya... dont get on it til after the tune... he should make some pretty drastic changes to ur timing map...

Mellon Racing May 27, 2008 04:57 PM

hey Eric, we'll get it idling however you prefer this weekend...some like it lumpy, some like it silky smooth, it's a personal preference. A little tweaking and nobody will know you have cams if that's what you'd like. Just let me know :)

mudduck May 27, 2008 05:45 PM

don't do it!!! become 'one' with the lope!!!
