Help! My Evo won't idle!
New to forums and all this but i figured since i bought an Evo i should probably get knowledgeable and meet others with Evo's in case something like this happens. My Evo was running fine until a few days ago, i opened up a little on the interstate and parked outside a pawn shop. When i came out, i noticed a burning smell and check under the hood, i couldn't find where the smell was coming from and nothing really looked like it had melted or anything. Car drove fine for a while until i came out of the theater with my girl and now it won't idle. I have to give it gas in order for it to start, and i have to keep on the gas to keep it going or it dies. On a side note i'm getting really proficient with my heel toe technique. Can anyone help?

Make sure a vacuum line didn't melt ... I'd check the line going to the DV/BOV first to see if it touched the manifold.
|
It would most likely be a vacuum line, but check the MAF too. I left mine unplugged on accident and it did the same as you are talking about.

its deffintly ur vacuum line.. check the vac line off of the intake manifold for your throttle sensor. it happened to me. put it back on and u will be goood to go

So i just got it back from a diagnostics shop, their answer:
Throttle body is F-ed up, TPS is out of whack, and throttle blade is sticking. all in all $1449. Good things i got my WyoTech buddies willing to help me fix this myself. ^_^ |
Alright i need some help. i thought i had fixed my problem, but it turns out i was wrong. my IAC is F-ed up, the Evo won't idle. I took it out, messed with it, cleaned it a bit put it back in and the Evo idled just fine. so i thought i had fixed and took it to my reserve drill this weekend. On the way home i felt my tire slip like it had deflated or something, so i pulled over to a rest stop and checked things out. upon inspection under the hood, i found that after having put the IAC back on i had forgotten to reconnect it. So why did the Evo run just fine when the IAC wasn't connected and when i reconnected it, it died and didn't idle? I'm so confused, and does anybody know where i can get a replacement or an upgrade for a good price?
Oh and on a side note, when i took it to a shop to have it looked at, they said my throttle body was warped and sticking, making my TPS go bad and that i would need to replace the whole thing. they were going to charge me $1449 for the repair. I managed to find a new throttle body and intake manifold on Ebay for $350, changed it, fixed it, and i'm still having problems. So if you live in WY, specifically in Laramie, stay away from Advanced Automotive. If nothing else i can definitely say they know nothing about Evos. |
can someone post a how-to with pictures of how to check vacuum lines or what not?
|
Its not the vacuum lines, i checked them.

looking a hoses and tightening clamps doesn't guarantee you're boost/vacuum leak free...get an air compressor and do it the right way. If everything is sealed up then I'd move on to other things like the ISC etc...
always start with a boost leak test |
