massive sputtering (i've searched)

ok im getting massive stuttering around 14psi i get no codes

we gapped the plugs to .022 drove fine for 5 hours a few races and what not.

then temp got cold and stuttering happens about 4500rpm. we pulled the plugs thought was getting spark blow out. plugs somehow moved to .023 .025 .026 and one stayed at .022

so i regapped them at .022 went for a drive and still massive sputtering at 4500rpm

pulled the plugs and there still at .022.

so do i just flat out need knew plugs or could there be another issue? bad wastegate or something??

this is on a fs635 and i put down 504/437tq on a mustang dyno at 28psi.

could it be gas???

I doubt it's the plugs. But shouldn't the plugs be gapped at around .028? Do you have a wide band hooked up? Are your A/F ratios in the appropriate ranges? Also you might want to check for boost leaks.

this is an evo 9 and this is where mellon told me to have them gap was .022.

everyhing ive searched for has mentioned either the gap of the plugs or the plugs themselves.

i would check your wires and for any leaks. also check your coils.

ive been searching for any cut or leaks on wires what would i check for on coils?

only does this when i boost the car

Plugs are gapped correct (0.22) Not sure who told you .028 but I wouldn't let them change my oil.

Sounds ignition related or bad fuel.

wevo1985 Nov 1, 2008 06:25 PM

yea it sounds like your loosing spark. try new plugs, check the wires for any burn marks. its possible it can be the plugs due to it starting right after you put them in. are they the right temp? the gap is good, should be .023 to .020. that would be where i would start cause its the cheapest. i have seen coils go bad but its not often.

filter Nov 1, 2008 06:29 PM

they were stock heat range but im going to order a step colder.

these have been in the care for about 5k miles before teh fs635 went in. and they were running perfect for 5 hours yesterday then when i had issues i pulled them out and the gap on all of them were messed up. i regapped them and now same issue. coils look good.

Billy@EnglishRacing Nov 1, 2008 06:33 PM

try gapping to .020

wevo1985 Nov 1, 2008 06:35 PM

change the plugs and go a step colder. i believe they rec. replacement every 5k. i usually change mine with every oil change at 1000. if i dont mine crack from all the heat.

hope its not detonation.

im going to order new plugs one thing i was thinking off could it be the stock bov just went bad and cant handle more then 14psi now?

at 14psi when it was tuned for 30psi? cmon now

anyway, zane swap the plugs to the fresh colder ones like I said yesterday and I bet this will go away.

filter Nov 20, 2008 10:24 AM

ok ive installed the new plugs and same issue comes up at 4500 rpms about 14psi.

i left you a msg mellon. im tearing down all the intercooler connections and re doing them to see if we have a boost leak.
