lemmy's 4g63 build so far..
so my timing belt tensioner **** the bed causing my tb to skip a bunch of teeth.
i was driving to work, on the highway around 3500 rpm- all of a sudden i hear multiple loud taps followed by what i can only describe as a handful of ball bearings passing through my engine. i immediately shut it down, towed it home etc.. here is the damage. valves hit pistons, valves shot, pistons shot, calender walls scored to the point that only an overbore can fix, and the head is ruined beyond repair. motor coming out. i know, the cars filthy. sorry https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0399.jpg https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0411.jpg https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0415.jpg https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0418.jpg to all of you fortunate enough to work out of a garage im envious, my car wont fit in my garage. i normally keep the evo in my neighbors garage, but i didnt want to trouble him with me doing the swap there. so out in the driveway it is. https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0403.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0426.jpg https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0429.jpg wiseco 9.0:1 85.5mm pistons Manley Performance H-Beam Rods cosworth bearings arp head studs/ main studs https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0428.jpg new oem oil pump JAM balance shaft elim kit JAM non ticking lifters evo 6.5 rs TME turbo gates tb oem gasket kit cosworth 86mm hg https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0632.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0633.jpg slowboy racing stage 1 head: 100% Hot Tanked Fully Pressure Checked SBR Competition 5 Angle Valve Job New Valve Stem Seals Stainless Steel Swirl Polished, and Undercut Valves New Valve Guides GSC dual valve springs and chromoly retainers Fully Decked Head Surface New OEM Exhaust Manifold Studs http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0638.jpg https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0636.jpg https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSCN0637.jpg my blocks back from the machine shop i just havnt taken pics yet. ill post some more pictures and progress soon, and hopefully start putting things back together soon. i still have some more parts to order; gsc s1 cams clutch/flywheel waterpump motor mounts and a few other odds and ends block back from Reid's Automotive. http://www.reidsautomotive.com/ wiseco 9.0:1 85.5mm pistons Manley Performance H-Beam Rods cosworth bearings arp head studs/ main studs http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0630.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0660.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0661.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0662.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0664.jpg oil pump and balance shaft elimination installed http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0666.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0667.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh085.jpg cosworth crank scraper http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh089.jpg for some reason i left my camera in the house during the head and timing belt install.. gates timing belt, new tensioner and pullies from slowboy. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh068.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh064.jpg GSC S1 cams installed, new oem rocker arms and JAM lifters installed. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh065.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh062.jpg intake manifold on, works high pressure throttle body shaft seals in and all other miscellaneous stuff back togther. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0831.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0832.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0833.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/DSCN0833.jpg my messy ass garage... http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh072.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/ehhhh076.jpg the motor should be going in this week. as soon as i shake this stupid cold... i hate the fall in new england! ill keep the pictures updated. Nice man. That sucks what happened, but this build will be worth it. When the expenses of rebuilding get to you, remember how much you're saving doing the swap yourself. Nice work so far.

thanks man. dude its been so long, i just cant wait to drive it and hear it again.

bump. pics updated. sooo close

Very interesting set up. I like it a lot. Most people on this forum go for huge numbers when they do a build. This looks like a good modest street set up with great spool up. congrats on the set up man, good luck!
|
thanks man, i was looking for something that revs nice and is reliable.. and to be honest, a mid 300hp car is fast enough for me who dosnt have that much seat time on the track yet.
id much rather focus my money and time on suspension, brakes and most of all my driving! lol. which at this point could definitely use some work. |
Yo whats goin on. Nice build right here in RI too. Im curious where in RI are you located ? Im wondering if Ive seen you around.

im not the type to go to meets or hit car shows, you probally know my boy rain with the s2k http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...d/IMG_2464.jpg |
I dont autox but I do hit up the 1/4 mile usually. I usually head up to epping on test and tune days. Ive been to Ohio, New Jersey, and well be going to Maryland for Imports vs. Domestics.
I live in woonsocket with my fiancee atm. Plan to be moving at the end of the year. Hopefully getting a house. My fiancee' takes my car and is always racing people. Thats why I was curious. She has raced another black evo obviously not you though. |
i think ive seen you on 146 before, i was in my subi, but i remember a tb wingless evo with ri plates. nice to know someone around here with an evo, i dont see many. well have to get up when im back on the road.
|
It is a wingless black evo with stock black wheels. But I have a CT license plate. Along with a black frount mount. My car is down right now with a bent harmonic dampner. Or un balanced. All I know is its wobbling really bad making the crank sensor all f*ed up.
Got a bnib fluid ampr from a member here. Should be here thursday. Then I still need to buy a cam sensor because I think the vibrations made it fail. |
wow thats terrible but your build turns it right around. how much did it cost to machine the block if you dont mind me asking
|
Good picture show.....
|
thanks man, the pictures of other peoples threads always keep me interested... i figured id return the favor
