Exedy Stg1... Who's got one, what do you think?

I'm looking to buy a clutch and I want to know what you guy's think of the Exedy Stg1 (organic). I only want to hear opinions on this clutch, if you don't have one please don't post. I have no need for a twin, or a 4/6 puck, I don't want an ACT due to lock-out issues... just want to know about the Exedy. I currently have 61K on my orig stocker to give you an idea of the way the car is used.

Looking for info on clutch life, peddle feel, what flywheel you used with it? All the usual things...

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Mods include:

B&B TBE w/ TP
Walbo
Hallman Pro
K&N Drop In
HKS 264's

Car is currently making 297/310 on CBRD's MD.

The Exedy Stg1 sucks. I got 24K on my OEM clutch (plenty of launching, track days, etc), got the Exedy Stg1/GruppeS flywheel because I figured 40% more would suit my needs. It suffers lockout just like any full face clutch can if not adjusted perfectly or if overheated / warped. I only got 12K miles from the Stg1 and it's slipping. I'm in the market for another clutch right now too.. Honestly though the Stg 1 is terrible, harsh engagment, very finicky pedal adjustment, very heavy pedal (think MACK TRUCK heavy).

If you got 60K from the OEM stick with it. It's a fine clutch. I've considered going back but dont think it's gonna hold my current power level. I thought all the negative on the Stg1 was over hyped and tried it anyhow - mistake.

Probably going with HDSS or maybe the ACT 6 puck sprung hub this time.

Skip Stg 1 and go to Stg 2.

I have installed a exedy stage 2 in a friends car, the clutch is horrible. At the time I had the act in my car, the act is a lot nicer clutch to drive. I would not worry about lock out issues with the act.

The stage 2 is more of a puck design is it not?

Anyone have any info they care to share on the Clutchmasters FX100?

Turbodemon Dec 28, 2008 12:48 PM

stage 2 is a 4puck design a little more aggressive then a full disk but supports more hp/tq obviously and like I said it doesn't cost much more might as well
