Went to port my header, tuner said it's a waste
Went to Turbo Trix last week to port my exhast header, the guy there said that if I do it the sides will get thinner and I won't really see any increase, I also wanted it coated to reduce heat, he again said if I do that it's only for bling.
I told him my red has the porter hot side, he said it doesn't matter. WTF? |
You're not going to feel the difference from the butt dyno, but there are definitely benefits to porting and coating which you would see on the dyno graphs. Plus it will reduce underhood temps. Take your parts to PPI in michigan, they do top notch work. I had all my header, O2 housing, and hotside done.
|
I highly recommend PPI for porting and coating.
|
im in NJ
|
just send it to PPI or buschur, and by any chance do you no the name of who said this to you?
|
Yeah I would just send em to PPI.
|
I have Buschur ported and coated exh mani, IM and a PPI ported and coated hotside very happy with all. Porting smooths and increases the flow of air, obviously. Motors are pumps- the faster you can move more air= more power. Nor sure why you were told it wasn't worth it :dunno:

porting the manifold has proven results. they were probably trying to get you to buy their new manifold
|
I have never done back to back testing on header porting and coating
However, for the nominal cost I would think that the process is a good choice Especially the coating will reduce under hood temps, transfer more heat to the turbo and make for a faster spool up Some people live in the stone age of technology Al |
Thank you for the referral's everyone!
There stock manifold can definately be improved upon with proper porting...coating being optional. Let me know if you have any questions and I can get that done properly for you! I even have cores in stock{thumbup} |
Of course you can always improve on something, but you can do without the coating because it is a cast unit which naturally retains heat well.

Don't want to turn this into a vendor-bashing thread but what kind of work will one see from TurboTrix? What TT said doesn't make any sense and I don't know why they would say that.
Will a coated manifold crack because the manifold doesn't have room to expand? |
A friend of mine just ported his own exhaust manifold last week and saw very good results. Granted, he also added an cheetmetal O2 housing at the same time, but the combo produced very good inprovements. Since he races STU class where boost levels cannot be raised with a boost controller, he saw a significant increase in boost, hp, and tq. and put down some surprisingly good dyno numbers for an STU prepped car. That's on a 9.8 hot side stock turbo. The results should be even better at higher boost levels and turbo upgrades.
