hks 280's
talked to a few people and thinking of going with hks 280's now should give me some more power then the gsc s1's, if anyone has any input if its a bad choice i'll listen to anything or was debating kelford 272's
|
The HKS 280's will be a downgrade. Are you running a stock/stockframe turbo? If so, stay with the S1's unless you're looking to squeeze every last bit of power from your engine. If you're set on upgrading the GSC S2, Kelford 272, or FP4R camshafts would be a good upgrade.

He said in the post that he would be upgrading to an FP Red. |

Sorry, I have sigs disabled so I didn't see that. There is a lot more to cam specs than just the advertised duration @ .1mm. If you dig into the specs, you'll see that the GSC S1's have more lift than the HKS 280's do. You'll also want to look at the duration @ 1mm valve lift.

I don't know. You are probably right. But, the S1's are not real power producers above 6000 RPM. At least, that is what I recall from the DynoGraphs that I saw on here. They kind of flatline above 5800 RPM. Maybe my memory is not serving me well though. I'd be willing to bet that HKS 280's have produced higher trapspeeds than the GSC S1's on the stock turbo given the same curb weight and fuel, than the S1's ever have.
I just don't agree with you that the HKS 280's are a step down from the GSC S1's, by any means. JMO. |

The S1's have 11mm intake/10.5mm exhaust lift compared to HKS 280 lifts of 10.8/10.2. Kelford 272's are 11/11. S2's are 11.2/11. Now, add in the effective duration @ 1.0mm and you'll have some good data! Here is a start: S1 = 216 intake/220 exhaust S2 = 228/228 HKS 280 = 222/222 Kelford 272 = 226/226 |
Who said anything about the Kelford's?...... Not me.

For the Evo 8 the duration @ 1mm of the S2 is 235/235.
|
HKS 280's are about the same level of cam as the S1's, but probably a bit more loppy at idle. I moved from the HKS 280's to the kelfords and installed GSC's 5039 beehive's at the same time. Well worth it if you're going to a bigger turbo like the red, but I say keep the S1's and see how they do :)

i dono no much but i have hks 280s and was street tuned and was verrrrrrry happy and they sound good at idol
