DIY: 35r kit, wisdom from those who've done it

So, a friend of mine and myself are planning on building a 35r kit, and completely fabricate it ourselves. He's a Wyotech grad, and is constantly reading/learning and trying to get as much fabrication experience as possible while trying to land the best job possible(which is very hard to do in today's world obviously).

So, we're going to just build everthing ourselves, being the manifold, 02, re-route anything necessary.

I'll buy the fittings, SS lines, injectors, and the turbo.

My question is that what do you reccomend I for sure purchase, what might be un foreseen challenges, what size injectors would be optimal for a 35r, and most importantly, where to buy the 35r from?

Do you custom make the new flange for the manifold? Or is it just a modified flange from a stock manifold?

I'd rather not buy used since he personally had such bad experience when he bought a used gt28r for his GTI.

This will probably take place this summer after I graduate in a few weeks, but I just want to start planning, get metal ordered, etc.

normally 880cc on the injectors will be sufficient for a 35r

you can get the flanges from vibrant

extremepsi.com has alot of fab parts too!
If you dont mind me asking what type of welder are yall using?

I got my headflange from SLS, and all the other flanges/fittings/gaskets/v-bands etc I needed from ATP turbo. If you want a full 3" o2 housing get a 120deg bend also. I got the metal to actually make the manifold from ace stainless.

Check out some of the threads in the fab section for more ideas.

You can buy the flanges and most the parts from Vibrant or ATP turbo. Injector size depends on the boost level you run.

yeah I've been reading up on your threads man, chances are I'll be pm'ing you through this process!

he wants to start producing manifolds for a few different platforms since he's having double knee surgery (again), and won't be able to work for a while.

Do you think the FMIC Cores on Vibrant are worth getting?

I'm thinking of getting the largest core on Vibrant's site and buy the end tanks, and just weld that up as well.

Injector size will vary. What type of fuel are you using? I am running the hta35r from F.P., and i really enjoy the hta version of the 35r.{thumbup}
Like i said above im using the F.P. turbo(forced performance) with no problems at all.

I'll be on 93 pump, and how much more is the F.P. version?

No sense in buying the largest core that Vibrant has, bigger isnt always better. The bigger the core the worse the throttle response but you gain efficiency. A core should be sized for the power level. Not sure of the quality they use, because they are pretty inexpensive.

I wouldnt use things from vibrant as their prices are phenominally high. For an intercooler core just talk to the guys at AFI they can get you a garrett core which is way better than anything a vibrant will come up with. Again like fat house said, ace stainless for the manifold metal. There are alot of places to get flanges from, you can get them from AFI as well or SLS. All v bands that your going to use I would get from racepartssolutions.com they are far cheaper than other vband places that I have found.

I am not sure on the price diff. I bought the kit from buschur. I am running 1000cc inj. On 93oct you should be just fine with 1000's if your staying on the stock bottom end.

Very nice!
