Clutch Release Issues. Help/Idea's Needed
Background: Evo IX with a Exedy Twin HD. Drive the car spirited, not beating the car, for about 10 minutes and parked the car. Next day, the car was very rough to get into gear only when the car is still. Of course when the car is rolling the car shifts like butter. The only easy way to shift into gear is to from a stop is to blip the throttle and shift into gear. The clutch had a bunch of miles on it so I replaced everything except the pressure plate which looked great. Replaced: flywheel, both discs, floater plate, throwout bearing, wedge collar, added two more wave springs so there is 4 now, snap ring and completely bleed the brakes and clutch release cylinder with ATE Super Blue. Also, completely bleed the ACD system along with the usual transfer and tranny fluid. I adjusted the clutch rod and took it for a drive and guess what, it is slightly better but still same problem with getting into gear from a stop. When moving the car shifts even better then butter now :lol: . So I then spent a hour and half adjusting the rod in 1/2 turn increments from end to end and the shifting from a stop is still the same.
So, any ideas out there now what I should investigate? What my gut tells me is that it could be a clutch release or clutch master cyclinder starting to go on the frits but why would it shift that much better when rolling? Experts, please school me on what I need to look at next.....am I missing something? Thanks in advance guys {thumbup} :beer: . Oh, and slightly off topic. Whoever doesn't drop the K-member with the power steering when they drop there trans is crazy. I will never do another clutch without dropping that to do it. Definately the way to go :D . |

Plus one on the K memeber trick bro :thumbup:. thats definately one of those "do it the hard way ,its easier. type of deals" My guess is your clutch is not disengaging fully. I know it would suck but nothing could have happened with the backing plate that bolts to the block between the engine and trans. It acts liek a spacer and if it get marred or something could be causing the tranny to not be the propper distance from the clutch. idk its a thought |

My guess is your clutch is not disengaging fully. I know it would suck but nothing could have happened with the backing plate that bolts to the block between the engine and trans. It acts liek a spacer and if it get marred or something could be causing the tranny to not be the propper distance from the clutch. idk its a thought Thanks for the reply. I did look it over when I took the trans out and besides being bent alittle around the starter area it looked good. Plus, the trans shifted fine and the clutch disengaged perfectly before that one day when I drove it spiritedly. Thanks for the idea though. |
I have the same problem. When I go to put my car in gear it wants to move forward and its a pain to get into gear. Took it to mitsubishi, they said it was the pressure plate being bad. I replaced that and still have the same problem.

You didnt happen to take pics of the PP surface area did you? Im gonna doubt its the surface area if anything though. If its the PP I would guess on the fingers , but doubtful
Any chance something is out of alignment when you put it all together? Its just crazy to me it shifts fine when moving and not when not moving. interesting. . . . |

Everything went together great and infact I got the trans input shaft into the wedge collar the first stab at it without knocking anything off {thumbup} . Could it be something not together perfect, like you said possible not probable. I think I will give the discs 100 miles to wear in alittle then try adjusting the clutch rod end to end again. |
Bump for anymore idea's. Someone else experience this and find a fix?
