what the eff. i dont know what's wrong

haha i put a halman boost controller in (hooked up correctly) and after the install the Diverter valve started fluttering really badly.

did a boost leak test... no leaks
hooked up the stock configuration... still fluttered
got the dealer to put in a new diverter valve. still flutters. (tulsa:mitsu:{thumbup})

they say it's normal, and i understand that many turbo cars do have a flutter. but this is intense and only started after the boost controller install.

any ideas?
coincidence and completely safe to drive?

halfnhalfevo Jun 16, 2009 08:25 PM

Yikes. Someone help the OP out! =X

PS: Try not to boost the darn thing while this problem persists.

benniboi08 Jun 16, 2009 11:59 PM

is the diverter valve on backwards? it may have been from day one and you just havent noticed.

yahu Jun 17, 2009 12:53 AM

^that is what I was going to ask. I had a similar problem when I installed an MBC, FMIC, piping, etc., also it was pretty much powerless like there was a leak.

I couldn't find a leak, people on the forum had suggestions but ultimately I just disconnected/reconnected everything and flipped the DV to make sure it was on correctly. It turned out it was correct to begin with, but disconnecting/reconnecting everything must have fixed the issue as it has run well ever since (after I flipped the DV back - I didn't care much for the duck call).

OP look in this thread. This guys diverter valve is on backwards. hope it helps

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...evo-ix-mr.html

good luck

halfnhalfevo Jun 17, 2009 04:56 AM

haha that means that the mitsu techs put the diverter valve on backwards too. haha. i would like to think that both of us havent made such a silly mistake. at this point though it's worth a shot. thanks guys.

halfnhalfevo Jun 17, 2009 05:23 AM

slaps for head... then commits hara kiri.

that was it.

and i along with one mechanic and 2 mitsu service techs missed it...

EEEEEEPIIIIIIC FAAAAAAAAAAAAAIL!

i hope my car is okay. think it was even releaseing pressure at all?

gsrboi80 Jun 17, 2009 05:23 AM

Easy enough to check the DV bottom port needs to go to the UICP and the side port to the intake

halfnhalfevo Jun 17, 2009 06:23 AM

haha i must have switched the orientation the first time and assumed that the way it was installed was the correct way ever since.

... i've probably removed and reinstalled it 6 times since then.

im glad i've been taking it easy since then.
can it even work at all in reverse? i would assume that the boost pressure would keep it closed and prevent it from ever opening after the throttle has been lifted... right?
... poor turbo. guess i'll be upgrading soon. haha... aww...

bbyevo8u Jun 17, 2009 06:45 AM

my dv was on backwards from the dealer! i knew right away what it was

yahu Jun 18, 2009 08:06 PM

You can drive with it on backwards, it just sounds funny. There might be some longer-term effects but I can't remember.
