rpm's reving in gear
I just upgraded from an 04 ralliart to an 03 evo 8 with 62k miles on it. I've run it hard twice since getting it a week ago and now when in 3rd-5th gear if I give the car juice the rpms shoot up a couple thousands but the car doesn't go for a second when the rpms drop down and catch. Is this my clutch or flywheel? or something worse and more expensive? Also, my local gearhead says i'm due for a rutine timing belt setup, sound right for the miles? Thx guys

so when you on the gas the rpm's just shoot up all of a sudden? is it at the top of the gears? sounds like the clutch is slipping to me time for a new one!
|
Yeah it slips at around 3k, about the time the turbo spools to max so then the rpms shoot up, i figured it's the clutch. Upgrade time! Any suggestions on good clutches?

Clutch, and yes, you're due for a T-belt. Looks up the 60k service, it's due for multiple things.

Your clutch is definitely slipping. And your local gearhead is right. You are do for a new timing belt and some other things such as a water pump and various pulleys. This is something you dont want to cheap out on. If that belt slips or breaks your going to have some serious issues. Good luck! Oh BTW did you buy the car from a dealership? You could try to to get them to pay for the work. Its worth a shot.

I did buy from a dealership, but not a mitsu one. Think i can still try to corner them into putting some of the work on there for me
