I'm replacing my front axles and the manual says I need certain specialty tools to complete the job. I can find the tools anywhere. Does anyone know where to find them or generic tools that will work? And does anyone know what size nut the drive-shaft nut is?

The axle shaft puller and puller body is nothing more than a slide hammer. Most slide hammers have adapters that will fit the threaded section of the stub shafts in the tranny and TC. Ball joint remover; use a ball joint fork that you can most likely get at Advance or Autozone. I've never seen anyone use the yoke holder when working on the front shafts when I was working at Mitsu.

if you get the slide hammer from auto zone or advance auto you will nee to find a bolt that fits in the input shat so you can pull it out and to put it back in just but the bolt back in and tap it gently in till its all the way in

You don't need a single one of those tools to replace the front axles. The manual has way too many steps to get the axles out. You just have to remove the main axle nut, the 2 14mm sway bar bolts, and the 17mm bolt on the bottom of the spindle that holds the ball joint. You can probably replace both axles in 1-2 hours. To get the axles out simply pry in a safe spot with a pry bar.

And the drive shaft nut is 32mm and Vatozone rents the socket.

I would think that if you're going to upgrade the axles themselves, you'd upgrade the stub shafts as well. But that's just my thoughts on it.

Slide hammer is a great tool, dont buy a cheap one though, rent one if you plan to do it once, buy an expensive one, around 100.00 if you are going to do it more than once.

When I did my clutch I picked up the small slide hammer from Harbor Feight; China's finest for $20, but I haven't touched it since.

I don't understand why you need a slide hammer to work on axles???????

A slide hammer just allows you to remove something the same way you would forcefully yanking on it with out hurting yourself or damaging a part.

Most techs can do without but if you have one they are just cool to use.

The slide hammer is used to pull the center shaft out of the transfer case - something you don't do when working on axles.

If you use a ball joint fork, you severly risk tearing the ball joint boot. I wouldnt recommend it.

Just follow the evomoto clutch replacement instructions for removing the axles. Like I said, none of these tools are necessary.
