sparktech igntion problem
 

this is for anyone running one of sparktechs COP systems WITH the m&w cdi box.

has anyone experienced a problem with blowing the 15A fuse inline between the cdi box and the battery? if so, what was the problem. every other fuse that has anything to do with the engine or ignition does not blow.

ive had the system for about 1.5years now, no problems until today. we went through four fuses today trying to diagnose it. just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. and yes, i will be shooting sparktech an email about it.

We use a 30 amp in our system.

ok, so i see that the wiring diagrams that m&w have on their website shows 15A on all the cdi boxes that sparktech uses. were you having problems with popping that fuse too or did you just drop in a 30A right away?

have you tried dropping in a 30 amp fuse?mayeb that will work even though if it worked fine for 1.5 years without a hicup on the 15 amp fuse something went wrong.goodluck please post up what you find{thumbup}

i have had that problem too,i just replace the fuse and it works fine,i think its just a voltage spike when my small battery goes dead and i jump start with battery pack.other than that no problem with it .

havent tried it yet ...the car is sitting at friends house. but ill be trying that today, ill post up what happens.

To the OP chris. We apologize for the inconvenience this issue may have caused. Please drop us an email with details on the system i.e. Serial # on the cdi box and we'll work with you to resolve the issue.

You are also correct that M&W recommends a 15A fuse. As you may know a fuse is rated to blow at that amperage. It protects the system and increasing the amperage above the manufacturer recommended rating(15A) is not recommended but can void the warranty. Increasing the fuse to a 30A will not solve the potential problem it will just allow the cdi to cause further damage to itself by running hotter.

Those battery packs scare me. They do work for when your in a jam though.

I blew 3 of the 15A fuses. I just replaced them and went on my way. I attribute 2 of the blown fuses to my car being a pain in the ass to start up with the AEM and E85 at that time. The last time it blew, I got a little crazy trying to crank it over.

We saw a lot of fuses blowing, we run wire that is nearly double what the standard MW harness uses, using a 30 amp fuse eliminates the fuse blowing for "unknown" reasons.

We don't see lots of fuses blowing. This is usually a sign something is wrong. As the OP stated for 1 1/2yrs it hasn't blown a fuse and there were no other issues. Doubling the amperage of the fuse is a band aid fix. We will continue to use the recommended fuse.

I'd rather blow a protective fuse than a slightly more expensive M&W box :)
