throwing p0500[speed sensor]...
hey,
my cars throwing P0505,which is "VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTION" .My speedometer works, and everything seems fine. My friend installed a HKS turbo timer, and I think he tapped into a speed wire on the ECU. Can that be the problem?I wouldnt think so,since my gauge cluster and the turbo timer both read my speeds. How do the sensors go bad? thank you pj |
I'm not sure how it all works but there might be a chance that the ecu reads a certain resistance. Adding the TT to that speed sensor wire might have changed the resistance on the wire hense giving the code. IE. let's say the ecu reads 3ohms as normal...adding the TT its now 7ohms.
I might be totally wrong, please correct me if I am. |
thanks for the response..I'll look more into that..
any other ideas? thanks pj |
How long ago was the TT installed in relation to the code being thrown? Not sure about HKS, but my Greddy showed speed in KPH anyway so I didn't even hook it up to the speed sensor. You can always try disconnecting it and see if it throws the code again.
Make sure you disconnect the negative battery terminal first, then follow the purple wire from the harness to your ECU. Clear the code, and see if it retrips it again. If it does, then you know it's the sensor and not the TT. Just be careful when removing the purple wire, it could cause the car to explode. (Just kidding, but it did sound dangerous right?) Good luck! {thumbup} |
if you did something to your car and something you don't like happens right after then thats a good place to start looking for the problem

the turbo timer has accually been on the car for a while, maybe 6-7months before the code started throwing.
does anyone know how these sensors go bad? thanks for the responses/ pj |

Is the timer working correctly? The MPH display is good on the timer? It could be as simple as a ground working loose over the last few months and playing havoc on the signal that's been interrupted for the timer. I use the same timer and have no issues.

yea the timer is working correctly..Reads MPH correctly as well.If the wires from the ECU to the TT were cut and 'looped' together, then shrink wrapped can that cause it? I dont know, because my spedometer is still reading correctly pj |
as long as the wires haven't come apart then you shouldn't have a problem...you're saying that your speedo and tt speedo are working so those wires should be good. you've had it installed for a few months now and didn't get the code until now. i didn't know that before, so your TT shouldn't be causing your problem unless there is something wrong with your TT internally. if your TT is like mine or like many others, there should be a way to disconnect the TT through the harness. don't start ripping out wires...just unplug the TT and go reset your engine code. if it comes back then you can rule out the TT. if it doesn't come back then you've found your problem.

i'll def. try that. Its a HKS type-1 so i have the plug. It was kinda hard to get it all plugged in,but i'll try thanks for the input! pj |
i take it not alot of people throw this code?
pj |
i guess not...so did you unplug it? if so, what happened?
|
check your fuses.. and lines to the speed sensors..
