Project: Evo6 Powered Mirage

I've just bought an Evo6 Powered 1996 Mirage off my mate here in New Zealand.
I'd thought i'll share my results and get some ideas off you guys :)

The Car so far - (pics to come)

Evo6 Engine
Evo6 Close Ratio Gearbox
Evo7 pressure plate/clutch/flywheel
Evo7 Ti Turbo 9.8
evo3 Rear LSD Diff
evo6 Front LSD Diff (transfer) - to be fitted. (currently running open diff, scary in the wet!)
Evo 3 Brakes, with Hawk HP pads
2.5" exhaust

the car previously ran 12.4 @ 177kph at the dragstrip.
It was running 180kwatw at 15psi. (On the old evo6 turbo, 10.5)
It's now got 200kwatw running 19psi on the new evo 7 turbo. (ecuflash adjusted)
Should be good for 12.0 - 12.2 now.

My plan is to race in the C1 drag racing class in NZ. (4wd turbo).
Minimum time you're allowed to run is 11.01 before you get kicked out of the class and they ask you to install a rollcage for safety.

The Plan is to race as the Four and Rotary Nationals in January and win the C1 Class.

Here are some items i've ordered so far-
Kelford 272 + valve springs (NZ performance parts! yay)
Adjustable cam gears
FP Red turbo (bought from Evo9-Power, on the way from the USA now)
Link G4 ecu http://www.linkecu.com/products/engi...-ecus/g4-storm
880cc or 850cc injectors
16" Advan RG's
Stainless Exhaust equal length exhaust manifold with anti reversion cones.
3" Exhaust

The car weighs about 2300lb without driver.
To get to 11.1ET i need approx 270kwatw. (~360whp)
I know the FP Red turbo can easily flow this, and with the cams etc, should make this comfortably.
I'm planning on making the power i need with the least boost possible for the engine sake. Hopefully a standard evo6 block with about 150000km's on the clock can cope with the punishment.
I've bought these supporting parts so that when i want to rebuild the motor, i dont have to change any of my setup to get some awesome power out of the unit.

I will be using the car as a dailly driver.
But hopefully i'll get out on the track and have some fun with it.
It's definitely an exciting car to drive, couple the light weight with the short wheelbase, and it keeps me on my toes!

I'll keep everyone updated as the project progresses.

Cheers, Mike

Pics are nothing pretty!

sounds like fun... get us some pictures already!

Kelford 272's and valve springs installed this weekend, what a mission!
but we got it done all good.
Idle is incredibly lumpy now haha.
Fidanza Cam gears on the way from the US.

FP Red 64mm turbo just arrived from evo9-power (thanks mate), absolutely mint condition. I'll try to fit it tonight.

Still need to order my 880cc Delphi's, probably go with PTE.

Once the turbo is on, it's off the Performance Reloaded in Auckland to get a stainless exhaust manifold built. He's using surgical grade stainless piping, that moves when it's hot so you dont get cracks like you can with stainless steampipe. Probably going to get anti reversion cones installed for maximum torque and spool too.

Then 3" exhaust, Link G4 Ecu, tune... aiming for about 280kwatw on as low boost as possible. I dont want to push the standard block too hard.

I'll definitely need to upgrade the clutch too (using standard evo 7 setup at the mo). Looking into HKS twin plate, but thats about $2000NZD so will need a massive cash injection for that. I'll swap to a "A" ratio gearbox with 4.5 final drive at the same time, and install my LSD front diff transfer.

Fun fun!!

very cool car. wish we got the hatch here in USA. they stopped sending it in 92. two body styles earlier. it would be cool if it weighed 2300. but it is likely well over 2600 in awd form. I know. I built the lightest awd 4g63 seven years ago. it weighs a scant 2575 using many very light parts during the build. the hatch body styes are 50 or so heavier than coupes. and the 97 coupe is 150 heavier than the 93 coupe I used.

your scale is way off. the 89 mirage turbo (hatchback) was the only factory mirage/colt turbo that ever made it over here. they weighed 2550 bone stock, no intercooler and no AWD. they were FWD cars. the chassis only got heavier as the models progressed. I have weighed virtually every car mitsu made at my local dump station. I am 1000% sure your car is no where near 2300. a stripped out race car with lexan windows and stripped interior would have a hard time being 2300. {thumbup}

I just dont want people making plans to build one of these cars thinking they will end up with AWD car that weighs 2300lbs. it aint happening. But make no mistake 400whp in 2600lb. awd mirage will run high tens with good driver.

You do realise the curve weight on these are sub 1000kg's... So I wouldnt say 1100kg's is out of the question..
