Ams, Buscher and CBRD Fmic's

All these intercoolers all have garret cores, am I correct?

I know these are not all the same now.. and i know i spelled Buschur wrong

No. Just Buschur and CBRD.

I've used the buschur street fmic and it worked great. Thought I was getting rid of my car at one point and sold all my aftermarket parts. When I decided to keep it I bought the ETS anodized black 3.5" intercooler as they were have a special intro pricing and I snagged one of those up next and I love it too. I recommend Buschur or ETS as I've used both. The Buschur unit was on my car when I ran the 1/4 mile times below....

The garret cores are the SHIZZZZ. I would go with the CBRD FMIC personally.

i went with the AMS core, flows more then everyone elses "race" cores.

also ran a Buschur on my 8 i had a few years ago, was very pleased with it also.

For the money the core is good and will support decent HP. I built a setup for a buddy that used the 24x12.3.5 Garrett core on his street driven 2JZ powered 240Z and it made some good hp.

How do you know it flows more than everyone elses race core. Have you tested this? Are you referring to flow as in moving air or cooling capacity? Each type of core has its downfall, so it depends on application.

Brsox10288 Jan 22, 2010 07:02 PM

I was thinking going CBRD due to the fact that there's is a 3.8" core that fits with not cutting or anything of the bumper or crash beam or undertray

Brsox10288 Mar 12, 2010 09:48 AM

Anyone else have an opinion on this? I am stuck on the edge now that I have been doing more reseach.

CBRD 3.8" = $850
AMS 3.5" = $729.99
ETS 3.5" = $599.99

That is a quite of a big difference in price between the three. I am stuck on which one would be the best bang for the buck.

ETS makes an excellent product for the price. I had a 3" and loved it. Another member on the board here has it now and I'm sure it still perfect. If you're trying to get the best bang for your buck, I would definitely suggest ETS. I have a Buschur Race core now and love that.

It's hard to give you an accurate answer without knowing your goals. What is it that we're trying to achieve here?

Brsox10288 Mar 12, 2010 09:56 AM

Nothing insane as of right now.. I do want one that will hold up to at least 500hp. That does not mean I am going to have that kind of hp, I just would like to know that I can go that high without problems.

sktng22 Mar 12, 2010 09:59 AM

i have the old version of ams from mount and love it. dont know how the new one is though with the cast end caps.

CBRD Mar 12, 2010 10:01 AM

AMS uses FCP cores I believe, which are awesome cores.... we are using them for our evo X fmic,

but we do use the garrett (as does david).... ours fits without cutting, and undertray still fits without modification as does the bumper beam.

I love the garrett cores, but the selection is limited!!
